When I saw how sport compact placed there intercooler farther back than normal, I decided this is how I wanted mine. I was thinking of getting a cheap ebay intercooler but then I thought of the Evo IC so I picked one up for $250 with all the stock rubber hoses and pipes on ebay. It has a bit more than 4 times the fin volume area as the stock sidemount with 2.25 in/outs. And since the stock ic has all those cast parts its actually 2 lbs lighter.

Inital mounting with piping ruffed in, notice extended "floor" for radiatior and IC support. Those are stock braided evo hoses it was wierd the cold pipe practicly fell together.

Hot pipe, all I needed was a 45 mandrell bend some welding and a hose coupler.

Shot from side to see IC placement with radiator. I use 2 sentra fans for cooling no problems yet.

Top that off with a shroud and enjoy the power gains

The hardest part was mounting the IC in the car which wasnt all that bad. I notched the front core support slighty where the hoses attach to the intercooler so I could move it as far foreward as possible. For the "floor" section below the radiator and IC I used some heavy gauge sheet aluminum.

I often thought of this so I would not have to relocate the battery But, I didn't think it was possible to make it look decent. You have proved me wrong! I love the sleepness of it.

from the looks of it, it looks like it sandwiched between the radiator and the A/C condensor....(HOLY HEAT SOAK)! Its cool though nice hiding there. My only concern is the core getting so hot from heat coming from the radiator and the condensor if its still there. you kinda want to have some breathing room though. Even if the condensor is still there, it will cut air flow to the intercooler significantly. So if it is still there and you are not going to eb using it i would suggest getting it out of there IMO.

My ac is gone bracket, lines, condensor everything. That is the IC in the last picture. I'm taking the dash out this summer to yank the evaporator or whatever its called, I will also be getting a upgraded radiator in a few months. Drag stripp in two weeks!!!

That looks really good, nice job. Why did sport compact move the IC farther back in the first place? Was it for theft reasons?

Looks darn good. I like it a lot. Looks like the stock evo 8 cold pipe bolts right on without any modifications from the picture. Why didn't you just leave the evo cold pipe as is? It is different in person I'm sure...but I'd like to know!

Looks good dude. I thought about doing this with an apexi or xs core but thought the heat soak would be too bad.

BTW, you don't have to take the dash off to remove the evap core. I just took the glove box out, take the A/C box out, remove core, reassemble and install A/C box, reinstall glove box, plug holes in firewall. The a/C is right behind the glove box. You do have to remove the dash to take out the heater core, but I left mine because A. I like the heater in winter B. I use it for defrost sometimes.

id say the stock evo intercooler is good for around 280, thats about what they push in stock form.

I'm rocking a EVO intercooler myself. I know EVO guys who are pushing close to 400 hp with the stock intercooler, so it'll definitely be good for more than the stock 280 hp of the EVO. Plus I believe the EVO's are pushing 19 psi stock where as most 240 guys aren't even close to that. Someone correct if I'm wrong.

Not the best lighting, but you'd really have to look close to see an intercooler through my bumper too.

So it's about 2feet less piping over a regular fmic? Evo intercooler can handle 350+whp at 23psi+ on an evo.

Can u post a picture of your engine bay s14toRPS13?

I don't have any current ones. This was from about a year ago. The piping was fabbed up by the guys at U.P. Garage in WA. It's a bit tight, but it does the job.

This is most excellent! I like my sidemount setup but this alternative pleases me too somehow!
