Details are sketchy at this point, but infiniti is working on a 550hp performance sedan to go up against Bimmers M5... it's gonna bypass the M lineup and come back as a Q!!!!! JUMP FOR JOY!!!!! Rumor has it that it will get a reworked GT-R twin turbo mill...
Plus... the new naming strategy is getting rid of all the current alphabet letters for each specific model, and going to start exclusively with Q!!!!

Q lovers.....We're back.... big time!!! Make sure you polish the "Q" lettering on the back of your ride extra good....

Meh, it is going to be a M series vehicle with a powerful motor, badged a Q like every other car in the line......whats still going to be missing is a FULL SIZE flagship model to go head to head with the Lexus LS,BMW 7 series, Audi A8, MB S class.....like the original q45 was meant to be.This new vehicle is not a replacement for the q45,and so far the brand has no intention to compete at the top level by reintroducing a true replacement for the q45.

You bet buddy!! Thanks for all the confidence and support... I'm pumped!!! can't wait to see all the reshuffling of product lines and what will happen....
It's more easier for the lay person.... It's getting to the point with all the high end brands where some governing authority would have to step in and make "reporting names" Just like N.A.T.O. does with Russian and Chinese military and commercial aircraft. Seriously... Q,G,LS,M,3305r,TL,GS,SEL350,MKX, all turns in to WTF?????
That actually sounds like a good idea... I'm going into the next luxury car dealership and ask for a WTF55r...and I'm gonna get pissed and throw a fit when they can't get me anything...
I'm sick and tired of all the stupid alphabet soup and number challenges with all these cars... makes me think of the days when everything was as easy as "YUGO", or VW bug (I'm only talking about nomenclature) Everything is luxury about all the luxury cars except trying to identify which one is freakin which. Infiniti is at least trying to go for a little uniformity.... :bs:

Say what???? pretty simple to just have a G, J,M, Q series of cars, forget the numbers after the letters.calling them all Q is going to further confuse the potential onlookers.

Think Mercedes......C class, E class, S class.......simple,elegant,and anyone with the scratch to be shopping their dealerships knows the hierarchy .

It's really not going to be that bad dude.... think about all the Porsche loyalists who had to deal with a pure sports car brand making a disgusting SUV. Guess what??! Those people got over it and are still buying Porsches!! They know that it has not affected the engineering of the final products they originally fell in love with. In the end, unless you have enough voting shares in the company to convince the top brass otherwise... DEAL WITH IT!! It's the way the world works....

Multiple letters more confusing than one letter??? When you break it down to a binary type level.... well, that's just mind blowing, I'll go and alert the Press.

BMW and Mercedes seem to be fine with the 1, 3, 5, 6, 7 series and C, E, S class respectively. Why can't Infiniti keep the series designation? The new nomenclature seems really odd.

The only somewhat decent explanation is this: The president of Infiniti has hinted that they will be putting a high hp, low displacement engine in future sedans...they hint that some new cars will be a big step up from the M56, but the displacement will be less than 5.6. So it might look weird if a new "M38" (GTR engine) was on the market with the m56 too. More displacement may not mean better car in the hierarchy.

Well, I can't say that I agree with your feelings toward the move, but that is a much more rational explanation for the decision  ... rather than like some of the other guys just throwing a tantrum and acting like babies.... Next on the Infiniti list of things to do should be to send grief counselors to all the dealerships to check on everyones "feelings" about the new nomenclature when they bring their cars in for service....

your thinking is almost bizarre enough to join the Infiniti marketing bozos! Hey,submit your resume if you have one! Figures, you already drive a car with a q on the trunk that is not a "real" Q , and the "45" on your badge doesnt match your engine size.....makes perfect sense now! :rotfl

550 HP sounds nice.

Worst-case scenario: If it fails in the marketplace and the resale value goes to crap (sort of like the previous Q's) , in a few years we'll all be able to pick one up for cheap...

Really, Really??? So it's all come down to the lowest denominator in your book already??? A phallus measuring contest?? Well, I'm sure that I touched a nerve, but last time I recall no-one in the Infiniti boardroom resigned and made YOU the last word on what the cars in their lineup should all be called...
Maybe you're right and they should not have called the second gen a "Q45" and instead a "Q41" But I will tell you this.... the Second generation was the closest Infiniti ever came to competing with the benchmark competitor... in terms of styling, performance, it was all there.... but it all was futile because of the way the company chose to market the first generation (the automobile you drive).
And apparently History is not a strong subject in your book. Because if it's taght us anything... it's that all the japs eventuallly follow each other. I now direct you to the late 1980s, when the only volume japanese car manufacturer with a luxury brand was Honda. Everything was simple: Legend, Integra....NAMES!!! When the big dogs Nissan and Toyota burst onto the scene... they went with letter and displacement wording. Acura was forced to give up their conventional name scheme in about 1996 when they went with TL and RL. Anyway, point is this... Infiniti is resetting the trend.... and I think if the everyone sees an increase in sales, they'll jump on the bandwagon too... pretty simple... because these japs are not going to lose ground to one another.... it's they way they were raised. Krauts on the other hand...are stubborn S.O.B.s. I don't think they'll be making changes...since they've been around a lot longer in this market than the Japs.
I am safe in the knowledge that I am not the delusional one who thinks a company as huge as Infiniti will beckon to the likes of the small individual who takes issue with this.... so you can keep dreaming.... like it or not... it's happening... so maybe in the meantime just find a small vacant lot and pace in circles kicking around dust muttering angrily to yourself. :tantrum: :bang You'll come to accept it soon... :boink:
Don't let it wreck your life... I hope it hasn't already.

All I care about is the availability of parts for the G50 and 300ZX. Infiniti can call a Nissan Morono Cabriolet a Q50 for all I care. I have been in some of the new Infinti interiors and they are just slightly better Nissan interiors. Same as Toyota and Lexus for the most part.

I have been working @ Subaru for some time now and honestly I have taken in more G37 Infiniti's in exchange for the Legacy Limiteds. Of course I am in the northeast so the AWD w/ all weather package is preferred up here. A G37 is cheap at best compared to the quality of the old Q's.

Well maybe they won't get too caught up in gadgetry like the tele-touch steering wheel.

I was hoping it would be with one of the DB turbo V8.

Actually, the G50 was based on a stripped down President and was top of the Nissan line. The FGY33 "Cima" was always second dog, as was the LS. Toyota never let the top level V12 sedan out of the country.
