Hi,I just removed the rusted heat sheild under the body, becaust it made a noise at 2000 rpm. The questions are what that part is for, and if I need install the new part around the exhaust pipe? I found there is a fabric ribbon on the market, which can sheild high temprature, do I need it?

thanks so much for help.

I suspect that Nissan would have not put them on if they were unimportant-at least some of them.

It is possibly to keep transmission from getting a lot of heat thrown on to it. transmission coolers are often recommended, so this would mean that in theory it could do something.

But could you just switch to synthetics? or is it enough to really matter? Lots of people have them removed. I took mine off up to the high cat personally and left that one.

The wraps might be just the ticket. One thing for sure...the rattle sucks.

There is a thread about this somewhere...I ripped mine off years ago and as was mentioned, many others have too.

Too Funny. I literally did this yesterday on my 98 Q, and was wondering the same thing. Planning to put some kinda heat wrap in the spots where the shields were. They were just too annoying. They were already split and I just took a hammer (carefuly), and knocked them off. Hope that suffices!
