Alright, I finally sat down in my 240, did some extensive driving, and decided to put down every little noise that bothers me and that I can't figure out. So here they go:

1) When the clutch is engaged, the car is moving and in gear, but I'm not pressing the accelerator, there is always a slight whine coming from under the car (somewhere in the driveline). As soon as you either

A) Disengage the clutch (press the pedal)B) Apply Acceleration (press the gas pedal)

The whine stops. What the hell is this????

2) Engaging 5th gear and accelerating at anywhere from 52-57 there is a loud, low, thudding type noise/vibration throughout the cabin. It's as if someone just started rolling on a really really low drum for about two seconds. What is this???

3) Every time I engage second gear I can hear some sort of thunk or click or something all the way down the driveline. This is more apparent under accelleration, but noticeable at a dead stop too. Should this happen?

4) Every time I drop the clutch I can almost hear a loud THUNK in the differential, or somewhere around there. My diff has close to 200K on it (had to get one from an older car when mine blew) but it really shouldn't do that as long as it has fluid, right?

Tell me if there is any way to fix any of these noises that you know of, besides Dynamat

I'd have to agree with Mike. It sounds like your transmission is about to give up the ghost. The Diff however might have a small leak and you may be loosing diff lubricant. :(

The thunking sounds may be your rear-subframe bushings. That's what it is on mine.

Stupid credit card company, I want to get my bill, pay it, so I can see if I got enough money and credit to order some bushings.

Sounds like you are shifting too early.... this is the engine trying not to stall.

This all sounds like a bad u-joint on your drive shaft. The problems you have explained do not seem indicative of a transmission problem. If it was the transmission the symptoms would be much more obvious. I would have your mechanic inspect the drive shaft u-joints and the output shaft CV-joints.

It might also be as simple as bad rear struts.

trust me man, i feel your pain on beeing annoyed by various noises from the car. i have so many. i know what one of them is, and am going to fix it soon. the others, are just rattles and clicks in the cabin in different places. i have a clicking noise coming from my right speaker on the door. my 4 front speakers dont work because of that stupid factory amp screwing up, so i have no sound coming through them (only for another week i hope) other than that damned clicking. i have a vibrating rattle coming from somewhere in the dash. its more in the middle, and must be behind everything, because i've pushed on about all there is, and it still makes noise. : :sigh: : if i didnt' love this dam car so much i would sell the thing
