I'll be honest, I didn't search. WAIT, don't go so yet. I'm not sure that to search on.

My 2001 Pathfinder has had a Check Engine light on for a while now. I was told it was the O2 sensor. The problem is that it runs fine when cold, then when it reaches operating temp it starts to cut off every 20 seconds. I can rev the engine to get it past the "cut off" point and it's fine but then 20 seconds later if left un-reved it dies.

This weekend I finally replaced the right rear O2 sensor. I bought a OBD II gauge and reset the light but the problem still persists and I haven't thrown a code in 60 miles. Also, it knocks and will backfire through the intake manifold but only when rounding corners. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Okay, I searched and it appears there's a lot of O2 flakiness with the Pathfinder. But does my problem sound related to that? I didn't think it did.

So I took it to my Nissan dealership and had them diagnose the problem and reprogram my ECM at the same time. I didn't want to burn out the O2 sensor I'd just installed.

They came back with the Mass Air Flow sensor as being bad and wanted $791 to replace. I see where there are several sources for used/new ones in the stickeys so I'll try there first.

Anyone have any other thoughts?

You can buy a new Maxima MAF and install that with one little mod for WAY less.

I sprayed my MAF with contact cleaner and amazingly it came back to life. I bought some specific MAF cleaner at the auto parts store which I'll try tonight but I was amazed by the improvement just using contact cleaner.

I'm wondering if these things really go bad or are they just fouled up. I'll go the Maxima MAF route if this one truly dies and cannot be cleaned.

Thanks for the advice.

Thats a relief, those MAFs are expensive to replace. I've heard of a few people who had the same problem, they just cleaned them and POOF they work again.
