For home audio I can tell you from first hand experience that there is definitely a difference in cables. For car audio... once you buy quality stuff, there really isnt much of an advantage of buying more expensive -designed for home audio- cables.
If I may be so blunt...
It is kinda like boob jobs. Too big is excessive and not funcitonal. Overly huge fake boobs get you on p0rn sites and maybe Jerry Springer. A good sized boob job will not get in the way, will look mostly natural, and stand out but not have people wondering why the hell you would want boobs with enough displacement to fill a chevy big block.
My point is this, unless you are running Mark Levinson #33 monoblock amplifiers, Bowers and Wilkins (B&W) Nautilus speakers, McIntosh tube preamps, and stuff like that at your house/apartment/condo... whatever, you do not need to spend 5,000 in speaker cables and RCAs for your noisy car.
If you want to build a high end system that requires Kimber Cable, Straightwire, Nordost cables, or anything of the like, do it at home.
