I've heard in race cars of this where they cut the old engine bay metal frame out and weld a new one in, but not anywhere else. heard of tubbing the front end for better turning drift-wise but i dunno if that would be part of it as well. just wondering. any input will help. also, if im not clear enough let me know and i will try to clear anything i can the best i can.

I have never heard of it. And you might want to explain it more in depth. Are you talking about the firewall or the sides? I donnno i'm kinda confused haha

you know how when you have serious rust hole damage on the frame they sometimes take new metal, tack it into place, than weld and fit everything like it belongs there? well, that is kind of the idea, only you gut the engine bay, firewall with sides and all, and replace it from a newer 240sx (in my case). Kind of like removing your old bath tub to put another just like it only better shape in it's place.

that is practically it, but im looking more at mainly just a way to clean up a s13 engine bay and remove rust parts. my step dad uses aftermarket fabricated engine bays because they are lighter and easier to work around then the stock engine bay fabrications in his race car.

Running a tube frame is fairly common in drag racing circles. Dent Sport Garage has something similar going for their time attack 240sx.

All in all running tubes is a major weight reduction.

If you are going to all tubes check your local laws or the rules at the tracks where you want to run. Removeing wheel well metal may or may not be allowed.

At our track we have to keep all engine bay metal etc.

Good body shops can take any part off one car and put it on yours if you want to throw enough money at them.

for racing purposes you could go tube, or stitch weld it, or tub out the wheel wells for better clearance... I don't think there is any real benifit to swaping out metal for identical metal unless you're trying to get rid of rust.

honestly though you'd be better off just getting a clean rolling chassis and swapping over all the good parts. It'd probably cost you less in the end.

yeah, i was looking at a car but im just worried about the rust on the shock towers and wheel wells. can't really patch that up real well so it would take me time to fabricate something and get it exactly how it was.
