Someone waving you off is usually a pretty good indicator. As rude and disrespectful as it was for him to do that... it was equally inconsiderate for you to continue with your "pitch". I'm just trying to take race out of the picture for a second. That's all. Who know's what his actual intentions were, and I think your attitude is the best one to have. Reserving further judgment on the issue until some day you may actually have the chance to ask HIM.
JaysonReliford wrote:The adjectives used to describe his attire were not from my opinion. They were factual. Had I said he was dressed like a hillbilly...that would have been arrogant or prejudiced.
JaysonReliford wrote:"I was perfectly groomed (even though I have an Afro) and clean shaven... My appearance shamed his worn jeans and boots and five year old Wrangler shirt"
That sounds MORE than just a little bit arrogant. The tone of language used sounds very judgmental. Hence arrogant and prejudiced. Now, I will grant that I can't specifically quote prejudice, so perhaps it's my own that read into the "tone".

It's obvious that you are a very intelligent man. But that kind of arrogance can blind people from time to time. I'm not lecturing or trying to impose my views, but you asked for our reactions...

Point taken.

Although I'm glad everyone doesn't feel that way. It'd be pretty sucky if every life gaurd, police officer, firefighter, EMT, doctor, surgeon, or generally helpful person was greeted by a waive of the hand as they were about to save someone's live because that person didn't want to hear their "pitch".

Quick story:

Record will show that for three years I was the Loss Prevention Supervisor for a J.C. Penny's near Dallas. This particular mall was known for shoplifters. On one occasion the shoplifter was a mid-thirties white female, heavy set. We had her on two different cameras entering the store, selecting merchandise, concealing merchandise and exiting the store without paying. I was the first on the scene to apprehend. As I was waiting for my partner I detained her, introduced myself, advised her of why she was being detained and proceeded to reach for my cuffs. She swung, missed, I grabbed her arms and the struggle began. As I was further waiting for my partner, without trying to hurt this lady, we played tug of war with her arms until a pedestrian drove by. The pedestrian yelled out, "Leave her alone, n*****, before we call the cops!" lmao That sort of thing happened on several occasions.

There was another time when a rookie officer with MPD (guys in the Dallas area just figured out where I worked) came into the LP office and mistook me for the suspect. His senior quickly corrected him after he called me "boy". Whether you consider these mistaken identity, blown out of proportion or me just being defensive...I think and I believe you can't know a man's thoughts until you've walked in his shoes. Now...I wear a size 18 so I understand my shoes are pretty hard to fill. Cocky? Yeah, I can be. Intelligent? I hope so, thanks. Arrogant? Not really. A hostile Black man...lol Not even. I think some have taken the core of this message out of context and others don't understand my feelings. The bottom line is, if you can hear and have the ability to speak and form words into sentences...don't speak to me with your hands. If you don't want to be bothered. say "Sir, I don't have time right now."

I'll be there tomorrow so I'll let you guys know.

Apples and oranges. A person NEEDING help is a far cry from someone wanting to not be disturbed. I doubt that if that gentleman's car was on fire he would have waived you away had you been carrying a fire extinguisher.

Agreed 100%. Unfortunately we don't all live in polite society.

ANYWAY....

As for your other stories, they are truly unfortunate statements on our culture.
