so a few have the red top here, and some have even managed to make the 34 series fit well in the stock G50 location.Besides ddrumman, i'd like to see some other pictures of your guys installs.

here's another point for discussion: why the red 34? why not go yellowtop 31A? has even more a-Hr, more reserve, higher CCA, is almost exactly the smae size as the group 27 OEM battery. of course it is about another $50 above the red top.

discuss.

I havn't taken any picyures of it in the car yet, but I fit this Stinger battery (THe 1700) in the stock location with no problems and it kicks both the Optima red and yellow tops butts.

Optima has some info on their site on why red top is more a "normal" car battery and the yellow top is a deep cycle (heavy electornic load) "specialty" battery.

I have the red top in one Q and Rob fit some monster battery (can't recall name ATM) in the other.

No pics, but I'll see what I can do.

Just like some confuse the EXTERNAL SIZE [of things like K&N filters and others] [forgeting to measure and calculate the pleat number and depth in the true filter area equation] ..................some brands of battery have small guts in big cases.

In conventional lead acid technology just like rotors weight is the clue.

Rex...in the millions of receipts that went with the car is the receipt for the battery which is about exactly 1 year old now. I bought it at Sam's Club and it was suppose to be their best. Hope Da'Beast is doing well and treating you good also. Have a great Holiday Season.....Rob

If you study the specifications of the 1700 you will see it is rated at 72 Ampere Hours. it kicks both the Optima red and yellow tops butts. say what?

The Q45 has a requirement for an 80 ampere hour battery

BE CAREFUL TO READ THE FOOTNOTES ON HOW EACH MANUFACTURER SPECIFIES AMPERE HOURS. some use 10.0 and some use 10.5 volts [optima] as the cut off

Most don't specifiy Ampere Hours they confuse you with CCA cold cranking amperes or worst RC reserve capacity

We sell Interstate and their top of the line seem to last me 3 years. $30 per year is peanuts compared to the other $2970 per year in maintenance and repairs.

Megatron plus 24 series MTP-24: 800 CCA 125 minutes RC 85 month prorate still only last 3 years on a Q.....................so 35/85= ~~50% credit towards another one. 18 month free replacement.

Optima has a 72 month vs 85 [mtp-24] however it provides a 36 month free replacement warranty. Optima has same CCA but its RC is 110 vs 125.

Both are made by same company Interstate owns Optima.

If both fail at 37 months the MTP-24 will cost you less.

Lost the altenator belt on a road trip yesterday, was able to continue for 20-25 miles after the low battery message. Was able to start the car after fueling up and discovering the missing belt and then again to pull into a garage.

I shut down/off all un-necessary accessories once I notice the message and the car ran off just the battery to about 30 minutes.

How is it possible to loose an alternator belt when you examine them at every oil change?

Belts/hoses and such do get checked , but I'm not aware of a way to check the tensioner pulley(s).

I was on my way to Atlanta for a funeral and was hoping to have time to swing by and let you see Da Beast, but my plans were foiled .

Tensioner pulley seized and melted the belt with no squealing.

Is there a way to check the tensioner pulleys are free rolling without releasing the belt tension and spinning them, then retightening?

"the interstate megatron recently didnt do well in Consumers Reports tests?"........................???????????

I believe if you reREAD Consumer Reports you will find that in the specific size the battery I use was NUMBER #1 First place:

Group 65 - NAPA 84 Select 8465Group 75 - Nascar Select 75-84NGroup 24/24F - Interstate Mega-Tron Plus MTP-24FGroup 34/78 - EverStart MAXX INGroup 35 - NAPA Legend 7535

The battery finder says to use a 27 series but I use the 1" shorter 11" vs 12"] 24 series due to the slightly improved specs. Plus the 24 series weights 2 pounds less.

well, i'm not seeing the downside--other than price.

If the MTP-24 also has an BCI capacity (C/20) to 10.5V of 50 A-Hr (same as redtop 34), it's efficiency would be 2.34 A-Hr/kg.

47 pounds is about all I could wrestle with on an angle [side of the road] if I ever had to replace in an emergency.

80 A/hr/47.1= 3.738 A/hr per kilo 28.5% more efficient than the best of the other 2.

yah, i didn't see 80 A-Hr from readily avail info--that is potent for a group 24. Is that independent measured or unsubstantiated mfg. claim?

called optima customer service today and got more in-depth info: while the yellowtop is stated to be completely suitable for low Depth-of-Discharge cycling over it's design life, i finally decided that the size 31 case may not be compatible (case height of 8.7 inches per the tech support man). plus base length of 12.5" would put it slightly beyond the tray. So i went to pepboys and got the red 34/78. brought it home (like they are gonna touch the Q....) popped it on the float charger, used the supplied lid to bring it up to group 24 height. Satisfied for now.

How about a pic please

Why did you get just the Red 34/78 as opposed to the Red 34?

they only had the 34/78 and i didn't want to keep looking. i suspect that is common, since they can service 2 fitments with one inventory item. the 'GM' posts are capped on the backside.

sorry for not posting to the gallery, seems to not be accepting uploads right now....

No, there is a new service mentioned in General Chat.

ImageShack links just go to boxes with red X for me.

Thanks for the pics. Looks like a perfect fit. That blck cover youhave over the battery, where did you get that from? My Q doesn't have it and when I bought the 34/78 for my Mercedes, the battery didn't come with it either.

When you host with imageshack, just copy the very last link for the pic and then when you bring it here, paste it between the following:

[img] [/img and be sure to put the last bracket that looks like this " ] " after the [/img
