Any NICOnaughts in New Eden? I know I talked to one, but I can't for the life of me remember his in game name. I run a small, invite only Caldari based corp. Nchopp got me into the game via NICO, so I figured I'd see if anyone else here played.

My in game name is Dranoel. Feel free to say hi!

Bumpages.

I decided to give this a try since Steam is offering full (non-trial, non-buddy ) accounts for $5 right now. I've always thought it sounded fun (I love space-based trading/industrial games).

I like it quite a bit, and actually I'm finding the learning curve not as bad as I'd heard. I still don't know how to do everything, but it's really not hard to pick up. It's definitely more time-consuming than WoW, but also much less tedious.

I haven't put much time into it yet...still have some tutorials to finish (for the rewards) and only have a couple of un-outfitted spare ships in my hangar.

I'm still not sure if I plan to keep playing permanently (or at least regularly) since Champions will be my "new MMO" if it turns out to be as good as I hope it will. Don't really want to pay that much for online games...But we'll see, I guess.

Eve is complicated. I've been playing for years and there is still stuff I don't know how to do. I do know the stuff I do pretty thoroughly so if you have questions, ask. I'd be happy to help.

What race did you start as? I'm currently living in Ichoria in Caldari Space. I primarily trade and manufacture, but I have a long history of doing the Caldari Navy's light work. My old corp called me "Lord of Commerce" so if you want to know how to make isk, let me know. Send me an evemail and i'll throw you a few million to get you started.

I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend EVEMON and Eve Fitting Tool (EFT). EVEMON will help you keep track of / plan your skills. EFT is a good guide to ship fits. Remember that EFT is not always exact, so use it as a guide not a bible.

I'm a Caldari, too. I kind of wish the game gave more backstory to the races...it felt mostly meaningless choosing. Still, the Caldari seemed to match my ideal focus on trading/manufacturing (which is what I intend to do with this character).

I have read about evemon and EFT but haven't downloaded them yet.

I'll definitely shoot you an evemail. Thanks!

Two Recommendations:

1. Train Cybernetics. Implants are invaluable in speeding up training times. +3s are a great start,+2s will work if you cant get your hands on a set. I have an extra +3 laying around I can toss you, maybe more.

2. If you plan to manufacture, train Production Efficiency to 5 ASAP.

Here's a question on the market:

Is it better to create a buy order and wait for someone to take it, or to just pay market price for a sell order?

For instance, a random ship will be offered for $17k but there will also be buy orders for ~$5k. Are those $5k bids lowballs, or is that really the price I should be paying? In other words, is paying market price a ripoff, or should I feel fine paying it?

There are low ball buy orders for almost every item in the game. THe best way to gauge it is to look at the order range. If it's 5k and the whole region is the range, they're prolly buying in bulk to resell. FYI, most prices in eve are in the millions. I have several ships worth more than 1 bil each. so if 17k is the price, I wouldn't worry too much. If you're looking at Caldari FrigsI have stacks of them I can give you. I have about 100 ( I used to make the T2 versions, it requires a T1 and mods) Think of T1 as an stock S13, T2 as a caged RB'd, coilovered track S13.

Yeah, I realize $17k is small potatoes pricing wise...that's just an example that came to mind.

Right. The best way is to compare it to other sell prices and if possible, the prices in another region. Generally, prices are set in the system Jita. It's the galaxy's largest trade hub. I pretty much live there too. *Just watch for the scammers, they are all over Jita.

I'm currently playing this game. Joined a 0.0 corp and for the first time was ratting in 0.0. Pretty cool stuff.
