So, I haven't been working on my car in a long time and I haven't posted anything in a long time as well. So one day, I needed to get my car back up and running because kicking it on jack stands just isn't the way to love a car... Anyways, I wrench for a good 7 hours and completely swap out every moving (wearable) suspension part and replace all the rubber bushings with ES bushings, including the subframe (not the inserts).

Anyways, my car's slop is extinct, but I have this annoying clunking in the rear. I check it the next day and notice that my dual (apexi dual exhaust knockoff, which mind you, sounds fairly good given it's price) exhaust no longer sits nicely between the subframe and the differential. It boggled me for about 0.03 seconds before I realized that my subframe had effectively moved 1/2" south due to the solid ES subframe bushings... So there is my problem. My exhaust fit nicely before the bushings. I don't really feel like dishing out a good $100 for an exhaust shop to "fix" my problem. Anything you guys can recommend?

Also for the review of the ES Subframe Bushings, I've heard that they increase road harshness. However since I have a lot of dirt and gravel roads I have to drive everyday, I have barely noticed this increased "harshness". I would say that with "good condition" OEM bushings you can feel 80-85% of the road harshness not absorbed by the shocks (i.e. vibrations and quick jolts). With the ES bushings I would say it increased it to maybe 90% (100% being solid aluminum bushings). Most likely, the ES bushings improve the most in lateral motions since they completely fill the bushing area and don't allow the subframe to move in any direction, they just simply absorb vibrations.

As for doing the mod, would I recommend it? No, UNLESS your subframe is completely out of your car already. Otherwise, just use the inserts. Don't pull your subframe unless you already have other plans with it. I had to replace my entire subframe so I figured :wtf2: right?

I had a change in exhaust clearance as well, but IIRC, I cut and re-welded one or 2 hangers and it was fine. I can't imagine an exhaust shop is going to charge you $100 for a couple of hangers.

As someone who only really cares about racing and pure performance, I HIGHLY recommend the Energy suspension subframe and differential bushings. Of course it's going to space out a bit differently, your old crappy rubber bushings were compressed slightly.

Well yeah I do agree with swapping them out for solid ES bushings for better performance. It's just for my application and I'm sure many others of being mostly a DD, I don't think it could have justified putting them in without other reasons to drop my subframe.

As for my exhaust I think I might just sell the one I have, throw the stock one back on (gotta smog anyways), and custom build a sleeper exhaust. After having this exhaust for a while (and mind you, wanting it for a long time before that) I kind of grew out of the whole loud exhaust attitude after driving quieter, more powerful cars. KA is a loud engine...
