Yes I know. I have another thread about my rack and pinion leak that hopefully the lucas stop leak will fix but I just encountered another problem today. Check engine light came on so I plugged in my OBD II reader and I got 2 codes. P0158 and P0159. I tried to erase the codes with no luck. I looked them up and it has to do with the Oxygen sensor. Is this something I will have to worry about? I already passed my smog check so I won't have to get another for 2 years.

My windows also stopped working and luckily, they are all up. Is it simply just a blown fuse? Is the fuse box easy to locate and replace in my 98 QX4? Do any of you have experience with your power windows not working? I have an O'Reilly close by that has probably has a fuse if this is the case. These problems that keep cropping up have put my fixing of the interior on hold.

Here is my post from the same issue but with the passenger side exhaust.

You'll need to be able to get under your pathfinder to do it. Also 1998's might take a different sensor so make sure you get the right one.

It would probalby cost $300-400 for a shop to do it.

Both of those codes are for bank 2 sensor 2, which is the driver's side downstream sensor (downstream meaning after the catalytic converter). The downstream sensors are only there to monitor the health of the cats, so they will have precisely 0 impact on performance. They will matter when you go to get smogged of course :chuckle: It's a pretty cheap part; I'd say take care of it when you have a free afternoon. The only hard part is snaking the wire up the firewall (use a straightened wire coat hanger).

As for the windows, yeah, check the fuse. If that isn't the problem, you'll have to take the door panels off, break out the multimeter, and start tracing the path of electricity. Come to think of it, check for voltage at the fuse slot first, before taking the panels off

Actually, check the relay first as well. Have someone listen and see if it's clicking as expected while you flip the window switch. The relay will be in this box under the hood.

I believe the fuse box with the fuse you're looking for, on the other hand, will be behind the coin tray below the steering wheel to the left.

So that thread was exaggerating about how difficult it is to replace the sensors? I have also thought about just posting an ad on CL with the error codes and the solution and see if I get any hits. I also might take it to a dealership and trade it in ONLY and ONLY if they give me a really good deal. I would be buying a used car in that situation and would need probably double the bluebook value on the car. Would be a fun experiment one day to go to some dealerships in the area and see what they say and what kind of car I'd buy. Only looking to spend maybe $5000 or so. I bought the QX4 for $2100 a little over 2 years ago and have put in $1990 since then so I am definitely pissed off on how much money I've put into it.

The windows work again. I've noticed this intermittent issue for a year now. It was just doing it all day when I posted for some reason. Windows have worked fine ever since.

Well you would be wasting your time. A dealer will probably give you 1k for the car so they could sell it for $1500 to $1800. Your sensors don't need to be replaced right now.

The difficulty of snaking the wire depends on how you handle frustrating situations more than your mechanical skill. You seem like you are upset at the car so you will probably become very frustrated quickly and blame the car for that issue.

Well, I will just go to a couple of dealerships and if they all don't want to make a deal, I will just walk away. No biggie. I can sell or trade it on Craigslist if I want.

So last night my car wouldn't start. Long story short, I had to have my battery jumped. Went to start it today and it didn't but I put it in neutral and it started up so I went to autozone and they tested it and the battery was bad. Paid $100 total for a new battery and it works fine now. My point is that the check engine light is gone now so not sure if it will come back or if getting a new battery did the trick.

The check engine light will come back after a few highway drive cycles. You likely just reset the computer and it takes some driving for all of the monitors to register.

My driver side window is stuck at halfway. None of the power windows work now. The fuse is fine. The guy suggested a main switch I think he called it. Are there vids online to take off the door? The first step is getting the window up. I will then figure out what to do next. What tools will I need to get the door panel off?

If no windows are working it also could be the power window relay? it could be bad, I believe it is located next to the interior fuse box on left side.

Video that shows door panel removal:

Quick update. I went ahead and just took off the power window part and pulled it up a little. Sure enough, all my windows started working again. I put it back and windows still worked so hopefully it's just a short and now I don't have to tear the door apart. My back passenger door won't open at all, from inside or out, and that's definitely broken and way more in depth but I'm not worried about it right now.
