I don't have the error code for the first one but these are all from an autozone computer so I don't know if that is accurate or not. Please advise if it is not.

Cylinder 7 Misfire and Random Cylinder Misfire

The next issues are the following codes P1135 and that looks like on some cars it could be an 02 Sensor. However its not specific because Autozone doesn't really have any listings for the Q45.

Error Code P0330 is also coming up as knock sensor on most vehicles. As well as P0325 which is another knock sensor error on most vehicles.

The symptoms are rough idle, lack of power, I have to pump gas when starting. seems like its miss firing. Smoke when first starting. You can smell the fuel burning as well.

Let me know your thoughts on what the problems might be as well.

Coilpack, coilpack, coilpack!!!! Knock sensors also need replacing, but not the cause of your drivability issues you are experiencing.

Correct- each sparkplug has its own coilpack attached to it. Use the SEARCH function and type in "coilpack" there is plenty of great information on this common problem with the 97-01Q.

For one thing the search feature sucks....its the worst I have seen. You can't search a specific forum. You have to use the google search which searches the entire site.

Nope you can choose from recent and archived, titles and post bodies.

So if you find nothing searching 4 times in the Q45 section come back and post.

The coils run abou 125 a piece I think. The knock sensors are 124 a piece...so that is about 1250 plugs plugs at 100...looking at close to 1500 dollars for this repair....

So cheap out ang get the bare minimals for now. Then save up and do the rest later. Don't junk a fine piece of machineray because Uncle Obama give you the money.

Just get the 8 coils for now, or even better confirm the bad one just to get the car on the road then buy it an install it.

There is ALWAYS a plan B, most of us just don't think it up.

Ok so I am going to fix this thing.

I don't qualify for the cash for clunkers anyway as I haven't owed it a year yet.

So I ordered new spark plugs. I got the NGK platinum's. My father is service manager for a chevy dealership and has worked on cars for a while.

Will any computer scanner do to get the exact problem or does it have to be a nissan/infiniti computer scanner. I just wasn't sure if the one from autozone is accurate enough. He said we could move the coils from one to the other and see if the problem follows from 7 to say 5. I need to make sure however we get the right computer scanner to ensure we can diagnose correctly.

Let me know....cause I am going to be fixing the beast now...lol...

Paul, you are not helping at all... It doesnt surprise me that he didnt find anything by searching.

Anyway, to the original poster, like they said the coil packs are likely suspect. Used ones might be a gamble since theyre known to go bad on these cars, I might just get a new one and be prepared to revisit this in the future... The dealer will want to replace all 8, and thats the sure fire way to eliminate it for a long time. You could also try your luck at getting some used ones...

Get your new OEM parts from Infiniti of scottsdale, info is in my signature...

Any OBDII scanner is going to be accurate enough, it can do 95% of what the nissan consult can do (nissan scan tool)..

Also, you can get knock sensors on ebay for about half the price of OEM. All 90-01 infinit use the same one, part number 22060-300P0.. Average price on ebay is 60-70.. You will want to replace the harness too, theres a few threads floating around on removing the plenum on a 97 Q...

This makes the second time I have posted in the forum and have been treated like an idiot. It seems people would rather bash than help. For some reason they would rather waste their time typing up a bash and doing screen shot and all that than providing help. The way I look at it the more post with keywords the better your results for google traffic and links and possibly your own search results. I would love people posting on my website forum like this but it is just started.

I just don't understand why people don't ignore the post if they don't like what is posted. It as simple as that and they don't wast there time and get all frustrated. Saves everyones time in my opinion.

I do want to thank you for the help I feel much more confident in getting this resolved.

I think my last question in getting this resolved sense I am going to be tearing this thing apart what should I just go ahead and replace while I am in there.

I am thinking to just do these following

Knock SensorsSpark Plugs

What else should be done while I am working on it. Of course I know its probably going to need one coilpack which I will get but I want to avoid trying to do them all. Is there anything else I should look at doing? My father in law will be helping me do this. Although, I think he is not to thrilled about it.

Heres a couple threads on Y33 plenum removal... The long and short of it is its best to have EVERYTHING you need on hand before doing so, because you can always send it back. Otherwise youll just be looking at repeat labor.

The coils arent too hard to replace if I recall, and once you do one if you have another go out it should be a simple fix..

BTW searched for PLENUM in Q45 forum topics only.

zerothread?id=420801http://forums.nicoc ... ?id=428935

Paranoidjack has done the plenum on a Y33 probably 2 more times than he wanted to...

For the ebay KS i usually prefer to go with the ones that actually come in an OEM nissan box... so id probably go with the second to be safe.

I haven't had a chance to work on the car yet. My dad was put in the hospital today so it maybe a while.....However I received some more lights on the dashboard. This was after they reset the computer at the autoparts store. When I picked up the spark plugs today I had them test again to ensure I was getting same errors. This was a different OBD scanner at advanced auto. Anway now the SLIP and TCS OFF are on along with the Service Engine Light soon. Any ideas on what might be the issue now.

OBDII scanner should give you a specific cylinder misfire. Switch the coilpack with a neighboring good one (no code). If after a reset the code follows, then it is that coilpack.

Even OEM Nixxan boxes may be counterfit. Go with Joe.

If you have many miles, good idea to replace VC also, or you will be back soon.

Hope your dad feels better soon.

Ditto on Brian's comments about your Dad - sick parents are no fun.

Long story short, your best best is to replace everything under the plenum.

-Hoses-Knock Sensors-Knock Sensor Harness

and all 8 coil packs. Many members have chased problems with these coil packs, replacing one at a time and it's like chasing your tail. I'm not sure if the weak one fails first - then the next one goes after you replace that one... in any case the consensus is that replacing all eight is the surefire way to resolve this for good.

If you're doing the labor yourself, it's a matter of how much your time (and back pain) it's worth. If you're paying for labor, it almost always works out better to take a "while you're in there" approach and replace everything that typically fails.

Well I am going to sound like an idiot but want is the VC. Also are their guides to disassembling the motor for replacing the coilpacks. I downloaded service manuals but didn't see anything in them. I would just like to have them incase I end up doing this myself. My father in law may not be helping me.
