Hey guys,
I'm in need of some help. After moving from my parents house to my apartment I'm getting error code 403 when I try and view my local 240sx site (nv240sx.org). I understand that this means the website is blocking me but I'm at a loss as to why. help?
I'm running windows 7 and browsing on Google Chrome on my laptop. My old ISP in Vegas was Cox and I'm currently using Charter in Reno. Note that I went back to Vegas this weekend I was able to access the site using my laptop on my parents internet so I assume my comp isn't the problem. Could the problem be coming from Charter? How do I go about fixing it?

Thanks for any help.

start > run >type: cmd (press enter)

type: ipconfig /flushdns (enter)

type: exit(enter)

turn your computer off

unplug your modem and router, wait 5 minutes, plug them back in

then turn your computer on

no dice. For the cookies i just cleared them in the Chrome options menu> clear browsing data and then set it to clear everything.

I'll concede that the color scheme is obnoxious at best and that the forums have definitely seen better days traffic-wise, but it's how the few of us 240 enthusiasts who are in Reno stay connected and plan meets and cruises. For me it's worth the effort to try and get back.

yep, I'm going to give him a call tomorrow morning and see if there's something on his end that can be done.

I'm off to do more research.

It might be easier if your local car club just used Facebook. Easier to find and add people, easier to maintain.

do you have any antivirus or firewalls active?

try the page in IE, let me know if it works.

For antivirus I'm using IObit Security 360. In addition I run regular checks with SpyBot Search and Destroy as well as IObit Advanced System Care, both of which are freeware. I also have an expired Norton account that I've not yet uninstalled.
For the firewall, I'm not sure. I think windows has one built in? I'll look up how to check it out for sure.
EDIT: My windows firewall is set to on. It is set to "block all connections to programs that are not on the list of allowed programs."

The same error displays in IE.

What does that do? Assign me a new IP address? lol those are a bit over my head I'll look them up. :bigthumb:

@Jesda: That's a good idea. I'll talk to the guys about it.

f*** throw that norton GARBAGE away

http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/ ... N&ln=en_US

even when you "remove" norton sometimes it leaves its firewall active especially on expired ones. i would do that next. use the link i gave you for the real norton remove tool

getting into your router and doing a release/renew might not be a bad idea but realistically a good power cycle (what you already did) should accomplish the same thing.

copy and paste the exact error too, depending on the hosting server 403 can mean several things.

if all that s*** doesnt work reboot into safe mode with networking (easiest way is to start > run > msconfig and use selective startup, then restart your computer) and see if it works there.

if you can get to it from safemode its software causing the issue

if you cant get to it from safemode its probably a connection/connection setting problem.

Here is the error"
"Forbidden

You don't have permission to access /forums/index.php on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request."

lol I hear ya on the Norton. I'll uninstall it with that link and I found out how to do an IP release/renew, so I'll do that as well.

Ok, after removing norton and renewing my IP I'm getting the same results. In addition, for the first couple websites I went to after renewing the IP,chrome displayed a 404 Not Found error. If I refresh the page the website pulls up normally. This has sense gone away. I don't know if that's significant but figured I should mention it.

I rebooted into safe mood with networking and was also not able to access the site. Other websites worked however.

Maybe you got banned. That reason given by the "forbidden" part is an IP problem.

this would be a server side restriction not a message board ban

probably not gonna happen with a low rent local message board.

Yeah sorry, I should have clarified that.

Sometimes a whole range of IP addresses get blocked from a server because of one reason or another.

It's happened to me in the past. Some d!ck down the street who was on the same ISP gateway as me went and pissed off a bunch of people on a gaming site and no one in the neighborhood using comcast could get in for a few weeks.

Doesn't usually happen with low-traffic boards but you never know.
