Just purchased 1995 Q45 the steering was erratic, pulling in turns and hard. My mechanic checked it out and said the rack and pinion was bad. Didn't want to break the bank, so I put on a used rack. Now the steering ,is worse than before. Hard, jerks in the curves and when I hits bumps, the wheels shake and I almost loss control of the vehicle. I have topped off the fluid, there's no leaks. Slower speeds it is not as bad. Highway speeds is sometimes frightening. Any help is greatly appreciated. If in the Atlanta area, could you refer me to an honest shop to get another diagnosis.

Why did you have to add fluid if the "mechanic" just installed a new rack?

Grab your old rack, and call T-3 and ask for Ty the service writer. You want Byron to work on your car, or at least inspect it to develop a triage maintenance plan.

I imagine you have more than one thing wrong.

T-3 Automotive Ltd.5322 S. Cobb Dr.Atlanta, GA 30080(404) 794-7700

You may want to get any parts from

http://www.infinitipartsusa.com

And payT-3 a flat labor rate to install.

Ditto on T3.

Did you install the used rack yourself?

The only other simple thing I can think of is if the u-joint is frozen between the steering column and rack, it can cause issues similar to this. It's a very rare failure, but it happened on my old Q.

I will check out T3 this weekend. I had to put more fluid in today, I don't see any leaks or spots in my driveway. I turn the car off, start it up and it drives normally until i am driving for a while, then the problems sstart again.
