I went to test drive a 2006 350Z yesterday. I started the car up and noticed that it didn't idle too right. It wouldn't stay steady and would fluctuate up and down. I checked the engine bay and say that the air cleaner. Everything after the mass air flow meter was gone.

Is the idle issue because of that? Or is it something more mechanical?

If everything after the MAF was missing, more than likely that was the cause.

With a broken connection between the TB and MAF, the MAF wasn't seeing any flow and the ECU was having a hard time compensating for the unknown air value.

yes. That is an issue. The intake tubes were missing? wow. I'm surprised it even idled. if its a car you plan to purchase, make sure thats fixed and confirmed to not cause any more issues.
