Man.. after a few weeks of head scratching and a complete intake mani teardown inspection (iacv, egr, pcv..etc,etc)...I finally found my problem. My KA started kinda hard...would have to advance it a few degrees to even keep it running. Would NOT take a quick rap on the accelerator (would bog and die). Decided to swap out the camshaft position sensor tonite with a spare.BINGO!!!!! This thing thru NO CODES and really didnt give much indication it could be the problem. Anyone know what could have gone wrong with it? I feel like beating it with a sledge hammer

Possibly got oil on the cas. Not as common on the 240sx as the altima but it can happen.

NISTECH... you mean oil inside the CAS, like on the slotted rotor or on led LED pickup area?. Maybe clean it with electronic cleaner?

Yea it gets sloshed all over in there. I used brake clean to spray it off just to get it from the parking lot into the shop. But it would propably only last a day or so under normal use. There is an oring in the housing along the shaft the keeps oil from getting in there. If that oring becomes worn you get oil bypassing it. The problem is nissan never made it servicable so to fix it nissan style you have to replace the whole distributor which is in the $500 range. I have heard of people servicing them but I have no source.

NISTECH,Dissected this CAS, the upper circuitry(slotted rotor and LED sensor) was bone dry. The "lower" section appears to be the coil area. My guess is the coil has degraded windings (shorts) OR the waveforming circuitry is compromised. I guess the lesson here is...the CAS is not a GO/NO-GO device. It can operate in a varied conditions. It threw this nube for a loop.If i had a way to test the voltage output under load , I bet i find this CAS falling flat on its arse. The bright side is....I got good experiance with the intake mani and all its fun stuff!!
