eratic downshift 90 Stanza

Hi, newbie here, lookin to the pros for some assist...90 Stanza, 4 speed automatic, model RE4F02A, 105K. Problem occured after driving through "mild" puddle, 1 ft water, tops. At 45 mph, decel from cruise, instantly shifts out of overdrive and into 3rd gear. At 25 mph, as soon as you lift from throttle, downshifts to 2nd, then back to 3rd, sometime momentarily to 1st!...etc, get back on gas, everything is normal. Only occurs when off the gas. Fluid looked / smelt ok from last change 10K ago, but I changed it again anyway, No dif. PS only happens once up to temp. Any help is greatly appreciated!

On the RE4F there is a connector near the inhibit switch that feeds into the trans. Disconnect that and see if you water in it? It sits in such a position it can actually hold water and cause erratic shift problems. Typically though it is at all times.
