So I bought my second R34 Skyline I owned a simple 2.0 there and back car before this and 2 R32's before that. I am tired of driving a weak sauce family car so I thought I would give this one some upgrades. I built a 400HP R32 at one time and it was fun to drive but this time I am opting for what I consider a nicer body and engine with this build. I have compiled a parts list for the car and am hoping for around 380-400 horses when I am done.

There she is ripe for upgrades

So finally after months of buying parts we got started a few days ago.

The run down of what we got and whats going in.
RB25DET NEO (R34 Skyline)
Tomei Poncams TYPE A
550ccBosch Fuel Injectors
1.3mm Cometic Head Gasket
HKS GT-RS Turbine
Blitz FMIC
Blitz RZ Radiator
Blitz 100mm Front Pipe
Autobahn 99 Turbo elbow
OBX Exhaust Manifold
VG30DETT MAF
HKS TIMING BELT and CAM Gears
HKS Hi POWER Exhaust
AT/MT swap (donor R33)
XTD Stage 5 Clutch (thought I would try out a stateside clutch and save a grand)
255LPH BNR34 Fuel Pump
APEX'i Power-FC
All DEFI warning gauges w/ Link Center
AEM A/F Gauge
HKS EVC VI Boost Controller
All new seals and gaskets
Origin ER34 body kit

A bit of bad news the engine failed compression checks in 3 cylinders so we have new piston rings on the way.

First got that engine & transmission out of the car

took a day to do this its hot as hell and humid this time of year so we went slow.
my job is the electronics since its my background so I went to work inside ripping the dash apart for new gauges and panels
more to come.

Update 1 20120827: They don't make em like they used to
So last week we pulled the engine and transmission out and knew that 3 cylinders were failing compression testing. After breaking the engine down it seems this is due to bad piston rings. No problem ordered new ones. The funny thing is even though I am in the country that produced the car it will take until Sept 3rd to get the rings.

This is kind of good because it gives us a chance to tackle the bodywork.
I have owned 4 Skylines. 2 r32s and 2 r34s. Any r32 that has not seen an accident will be in way better condition than an r34 that also has not seen an accident. The proof is on the bottom of the car. They stopped putting under coating on the entire body of the skyline after the r32 and the rust damage became quite shocking once the aero was off my car. No problem really we are sanding it all back to good metal then coating it and replacing the holes with Carbon Fiber. See below for the horrible rust damage to the car.

Update 2: Get the air cold
So this week the rust has been repaired and replaced with some welds, FRP, and Carbon Fiber.
Also to help break the metonymy we put the Inter-cooler in. Nice to see something shiny on the car. Tomorrow. I am going to get to work on the electronics inside.
Only one new pic. More coming tomorrow.
Keep her cool:

Update 3: Body is done
So Saturday the body repair work was completed and I got a chance to install the gauges and other electronics we plugged it into a battery charger to make sure I can understand a schematic. Gauges boost controller and POWER FC all have power. Today the last engine parts should be here so hopefully by next week we will be ready to turn the key. I also repainted the interior panels to match the outside color of the car.

Update 4: Aero Fitting
The Origin Labs body kit I bought a few months back is finally getting fitted and prepped for paint it ends up no cutting is needed and it slides on with no problems.

did you figure out why the motor had no compression?

normally these motors will chew up the ringlands and render the pistons useless if the problem is piston related...might want to make sure the head isnt fubared.

I didn't have no compression, it had low compression in 3 cylinders ( I guess I could have worded my statement above better) . The rings seem to be the culprit. The whole engine is broken down at the moment and the pistons look good now that they have been cleaned and checked. The new rings are in hand and this weekend the engine will be put back together. We are going to perform leak checks on the valves , the works. We were initially worried that maybe the pistons were screwed but after the engine was opened up it was all good. Just really carbon caked with bad rings.

Update 5: Engine assembly
After a good 2 days of work the engine is coming together. It has been rebuilt. New piston rings, new injectors, new cams, new exhaust manifold, and new turbo, all new gaskets, valve seals new 1.3 mm head gasket.
One point, I bought an OBX Racing exhaust manifold, its not the best piece I have ever bought. It is warped and the bolt holes didn't line up. It took quite a bit of customization to get it to fit. 2+ hours of drilling and fitting and drilling again before it got fit properly. But I guess you get what you pay for. Pretty much all that is left is to put the cam gears and timing belt on and put it back in the car.

Do yourself a favor and ditch the OBX manifold, especially if it is warped...

This is the problem I'm have with my r32 so much rust, much damage. My rb25 is junk, warped head,no piston rings, rabbit scaring in cly num 4! But man I love this car, its good to know that parts take forever in japan too.

33's and 34's do have undercoating underneath, You live in a coastal area and the previous repairs probably weren't done to the highest of standards which both would have contributed to your rust issues, I've had 2 33's and worked on numerous 33's and 34's and none have had any significant rust damage anywhere.

It is no where near as good as the 32. I have looked at many 34s and many 32s and generally the 32s are always in better shape.
