I'm buying 2 sets of Boston Acoustics Z6 component speakers and I want to have a decent amp powering them. I'm looking at the Boston Acoustics GT42 but the only ones I found are made in China... go figure, hope the Z6's were not made in China. Anyway, Is there a better amp and or speakers then the Z6's and the GT42's? I'm planning on spending about 2k on components and amp, more if I have too. Thanks guys!

Wow, that's quite a budget.

About the made in china comment. IIRC there is only one, maybe two companies that still make their products in the US, and their quality is no better then the china made stuff.

You made a good choice with the components.

As for the amp. I go with anything that can deliver a little more(25%?) power then your speakers can handle, and do so with less then 0.05%THD.

If an amp can do that, then you'll be fine.

I envy your budget.Don't forget about deadening your vehicle (if you haven't already) so you can fully appreciate the sound quality of those speakers.

I agree with what phuphyter said.

Put atleast a few hundred towards sound deadning material

I have an Alpine 4x50 (MRP-F240) that I picked up on sale for $100 powering my mids. It sounds pretty good. Frequency response is narrower than I'd like at 20-20000. THD is a little high at .08%, but for a simple sytem like mine it sounds crystal clear. Of course, I also have A Clarion HX-D10 that has no internal amp and super noisless circuitry, so I can get away with the higher distortion level on the Alpine and not notice it. ever. Fit and finish is good, it's lightweight but solid feeling, never gets more than a little bit warm, and easily tucks under the seat of my s13. Good amp, especially for the money. You mentioned JL, and Hi-Fonics makes good amps too, as well as others. Really, though, decide what kind of power and sound qualities you want and get the best speakers you can afford (Like Boston Acoustics and I also like my Eclipse component set A LOT). Then get the best Headunit you can (like the HX-D10 or a Nakamichi) THEN decide on amps, they're really not as important as the other two. That's a good order for design priorities (and of course plan for wiring, sound deadening, crossovers, battery, etc. as the previous choices dictate). Oh, and, as was mentioned already, make sure you match the amp to the speakers. Running your speakers at full capacity (more power=more clarity) but not frying them is the most important bit about amps, really, as well as not introducing noise or negating your frequency response (like I did).

My current setup is the following

Alpine 7998 HUHiFonics Brutus 1500 watt amp 1 channel2 10" Infinity kappa perfects DVC1 Alpine MRV-F450 Amp 5 channel2 sets of Kappa Perfect 5.1 components

I'm no longer doing more performance mods on my car, it's getting really good gas milage even with the SR and I want to keep it that way. Have done the 97 Nissan quest alt upgrade and a yellow top battery, planning on getting a PC 1700T Odyssey battery lol, Huge mofo. Anyway, I'm going to strip everything and get it prepped for my next audio system. I just enjoy crusing in my car for long distances and just want to make it the absolute best experience I possibly can have.

Oh, so I read your first post wrong. You are spending $2000+ on your midrange setup only. Well, with those Bostons and the 2 JL amps you'll be right there if not more. Seems like a good combo.p.s. I came over to this forum looking for alternator upgrade info. Thanks for the tip.

i hear ya ,love long drives.make it comfortable,oh ya,k+..should look into this stuff.for sound deadening id recommend http://www.mcmaster.com/ for visiolastic.it molds nice very sticky, like vb2 or 2 i forget, been awhile.thin dense matt.without the silkscreen.its way cheaper too.high temp mastic is thicker, like dynamate without solkscreen.cheap rolls.i actually sold what i had left to cartoys installers for there own vehicles.lol.i even got visiolstic on my heat sheilds under car.pretty covered, lol.
