Well... My road to mods is nearly coming to an end. I've had my EPS throttle bodies for over a month. And was waiting for the right time to install them. Which will be installed on the same date the car is tuned.

EPS throttle bodies just really seem to be a red headed step child on these 3.7 motors. So much so that people buy them. Unsuccessfully tune them. Take them off & resale them. Well that's unnerving. So I contacted Jake 1 of the engineers to develop the 70mm Throttle body for the 3.7. EPS tuning in case anyone's interested. He was very helpful and says he stands by his product. Engineer by day. Take care of his business by night. But reassured me he'd help anyway possible. Heck. He said I could tune those throttle bodies in 5 minutes if the car were in front of me. I told him my concern was that there are 2 reputable tuners near me. 1 refuses to tune if I add throttle bodies. The 2nd goes to the 1st in case things get hairy. But at least the 2nd said he would try. Well... I don't want to pay through the nose with him trying and failing. So I'm trying to set him up for success on tuning my car with these throttle bodies. Had tuner contact Jake at EPS. And looks like tuners more confident in getting everything together.

Wish me luck. Cross your fingers. Pray to the car gods. Getting the car tuned on Wednesday the 7th. Adding an UD pulley too that day. Hope to recover some of the lost low end power with all my mods listed below.

Ilya, to heck with you and your 5.6 on Roids :poke: lol Let us lil guys catch up :gapteeth:

DKASM37, I doubt it for the mere fact that I'm on 91 octane vs 93. :nono: I think I'll be in the 310-315 range if I'm lucky.

Got bad news today regarding the throttle bodies. Tuner talked to EPS and just can't tune the car without certain key things to plug into ECM and sort things out with the TB's. So when I spoke to the owner. Not tuner. He was the 1 that initially seemed positive about getting it installed and running right. Looks like I'm going to have to contact Jake of EPS and ask him for a tuner near me that he knows can get the TB's tuned right. Ready to pull what little hair I have left out of my head.

With all of these mods you listed, you are reducing low end torque for upper end gains. Are you getting a higher stall torque converter to take advantage of that?

That's the reason for the UD pulley. Make up for low end power. No torque converter considered. Just a level 10 valve body I see in my very near future

Be sure to read up on Level 10. Amongst many other forums, they are known as rip-off artists. The common findings is that their "upgrade" kits are merely OEM rebuild kits + some cheap shims which are more hurtful than helpful.

If you want firmer shifts, replacing specific springs in accumulators and increasing specific hole diameters in the valve body separator plate is the only way to do that without causing unneeded damage. The spring changes correspond to allowing the "slack" in the accumulator be taken up quicker so one gear engages and the other disengages faster and the increased hole diameters allow increased fluid flow when feeding and exhausting those accumulators. It can''t be done willy-nilly though. It must be correctly sized or else you'll really end up with a broken transmission. Transgo may have instructions on this. Never drill new holes in valve bodies or increase shift pressure, which Transgo often instructs. You just want to increase fluid flow, not pressures or make new paths for fluid.

That's interesting I've always heard good things about level 10. I haven't really been on the G and Z sites much lately though maybe they went downhill. They were pretty much the only option there was. Also every boosted G or Z that runs decent numbers and stays together all have their transmissions. Maybe that has changed but they were the go to place for years for building the 7 speed.

Postal you near Cali I might have someone for you to try and tune your TB's

Yes sir I am Dred. Let me know if anyone comes to mind.

Awesome info Aviator. :chuckle: I to thought Level10 was the place to go to for trans mods. If you have any further info or a place to recommend to do what your talking about. I'd be forever indebted to you. :bowrofl:

Update on the TB's. Spoke to Jake of EPS. He suggested a tuner in La Puenta Ca which is about 6 hours from me. But a man's got to do what a man's go to to do. Didnt Clint Eastwood say that? LOL. :gotme Anyway. Spoke to the tuner. It's $650 for Dyno tuning. :wtf2: And this is the kicker. Being a Q70 And, I don't know. Maybe our cars not getting a lot of uprev tuning. :frown: He asked me to go to the dealer and get the ECU scanned. It should pop up a number. Copy the number down. Give him the ECU number and then he can verify through UPrev if he can tune. He's just trying to save me a trip And I can certainly appreciate that. :bigthumb:

So I'll keep you all updated.

This is turning into 1 of the biggest headaches as far as a mod is concerned. :tisk: More updates. Tuner in La Puenta told me my ECM needs to be hacked by UPrev. So to save time. He suggested dumping the ECM with a local tuner. No local tuner want to help unless they're tuning. :nono: So 1 round trip (12 Hrs) just for an ECM dump. $200 for the dump through UPrev. Then a week later, 2nd round trip(24 hrs total) plus $650 to Dyno tune. I'm thinking this mod is a bust for me. Unless your near Jake of EPS or Z1. This isn't worth it at this point. :tisk: Waiting on 1 last option that Dred pointed me towards. I'll see if it pans out. :ohno: Z1 is willing to take back the TB's for store credit. :gapteeth:

Send the TBs back. In the long run, they won't do anything anyway. The stock TBs provide more than enough CFM for this engine, even after what you're doing to it.

Also, does anyone know if the V6 and V8 models share the same TBs?

M37 part number for the TB is: 16119-JK20D (used by most newer Infiniti V6's such as the QX70, etc.)
M56 part number for the TB is: 16119-1CA0D (used by most newer Infiniti V8's such as the QX70, etc.)

Dred. Thank you for the lead. That guy was in Chatsworth. So 5.5 hours away. Really no difference. No way of really getting it done without making 2 round trips. For me this mod has been a bust. I Can't get my money back. But I'll have nearly $800 in store credit.
