Been searching and doing a lot of reading as of lately on this subject.

I had only 2 questions unanswered left...

1. If I were to get an emulator, would I still need a programmer to burn the chip ?! I do have a spare ECU with oem chip which I am guessing is not re-usable. So I bet, I still need to buy a programmer to burn a new eeprom chip, and than I can modify that one on the go with an emulator ?!

2. I've been again looking a lot for this. I found quite a few forums and sites but they are dated very old. I already did save all the .bins I can find on the net but I am specifically looking for a set-up.

S14 T28 turbo running 1 bar, 440 gt-r injectors, Z32 MAF, exhaust, fmic.

I found a basic one that covers 450 and Z32 MAF, i was wondering 440 and 450 wouldnt make a huge difference ?! or depends on the injector type ?!

I am also willing to trade ROMs.

Thanks guys.

if its set for 450's and you use 440's, you'll run lean.

emulator is not a permanent replacement for a eeprom, unless you want to have a laptop tethered to your car all the time.

Also, you'll need to desolder the stock rom and solder in a socket so you can use an EEPROM. get a 28c256 as that is pin compatible and reprogramable. note that it is twice the size of the stock chip so you'll need to double your .bin ('copy /b rom128.bin + rom128.bin rom256.bin). There is such a thing as 28c128 that would be the 'right' size but good luck finding any for a decent price, they're rare now (nobody wants em).

the emulator is only good for tuning, once you figure out what values you want then you program them into a chip and remove the emulator and install chip.

Thanks for the reply, all tho I am not too sure about the copying twice part. Can you explain in little more detail ?!

and i have to solder in a new socket for EEPROM eh?! How about if I were to just use a EPROM chip ?! is there a direct fitment for the existing oem socket ?! a part number would be awesome.

There are a lot more info on how to do these things for SR than CA.

Yes, you need a socket. Unless you plan on making the eprom permanent and never messing with it ever again. The stock chip is soldered to the board...there is no 'oem socket'. And as for writing the file twice, if you use a 256k chip, you have to write all the data from address 0000h - 3FFFh and then write it again from 4000h - 7FFFh.

where can I get a socket from ?!

and I understand 128k is correct size chip but as mentioned before, they are very rare to find.

and c-rad, are you boosteds13 on ztech boards ?!

You can look on ebay for the 27128, 27C128 or 29C128 (eeprom) chips. Usually they come as a lot and are used. But if you get a UV eraser you can just erase them and use them. Personally though, I would get an eeprom next time around. UV erasers take forever.

Here is one on ebay right now for $4-- http://cgi.ebay.com/Atmel-EEPR...wItem

And yes, I am boostedS13 EVERYWHERE but here. Well, I was boosteds13 on here too until they did something to the board a few years ago and I could no longer access my account. I tried getting them to reset my password but nothing ever came about. So I made up this name.

Thanks for the detailed replay...

I downloaded z32,440cc .bin for ca18 from http://www.ca18det.escic.com , I believe its a site you are hosting or something like that ?!

I was wondering if I can use that .bin without any problem ?!

oh and I just came accross this one on ebay

http://cgi.ebay.com/I-C-Eprom-...47371

I dont mind buying in a pack for little more pricey... but seems like a 1-time use 128bit EPROM chip ... perfect fit for ca18 and socket ?!

I just reburned mine today trying to fix some of my richness issues (wow I overcompensated hard core for 'safety' back when I burned this thing originally) and I realize now I'm actually using a winbond w27c512.. it's not really a true 27cXXX device (those aren't electrically erasable) but the w27cXXX series is supported by the willem programmer and any other decent programmer. In my case I have to quadruple the .bin size since it's a 512 chip :D

an emulator is definately a replacement for EPROM if you want to.

the emulator will keep your last loaded bin file stored, so you dont need to have a laptop in your car at all times.
