what chip series do i need for the rb20 ecu?ive whipped up a chip in rom editor to run my 550s and with an 8k redline.emanage wont control injectors that large so i figure if i make the ecu do it its less futzing that the emanage will be doing with the afm signal.

You'll need to have your ecu socketed, and then purchase a 27c256 28 pin eprom chip. Then you'll have to have a way to program it, then a way to erase it when it isn't quite working right and it is an enormous pita to burn, test, erase, burn, test..etc.

Just get the pocket romulatar thing I use and it's 10x better. You don't need a chip burner or an erasing UV light, and you can program in realtime. This saves hours and increases accuracy because it is easier to fine tune. With the romeditor, it guesses at injector dead time, so you may have to fuss with that and being able to do it instantly is soo much nicer (I know from experience).

So, yeah, you'd think I was selling the emulator things, but they're really that helpful, and at $190, it's quite a deal.

Hey GoofyNick,

Since you are the resident expert on Eprom's and ECU reformatting and all that good stuff...

Would you consider doing this work for others? For a profit of course!

I am not ready any time soon to upgrade turbo, injectors, and stuff, but when I do, I am convinced that your systems beats Emanage, SAFC2, etc...

I also know that doing that stuff is out of my league... I suppose I could learn how and give it a shot, but I think I'd rather pay someone to do the tech stuff for me and then teach me how to use the final product.

Let me/us know if you might consider it...

Thanks!Eikon

Well, the only thing I could do is socketing the ecu and getting it setup with a base map, from there you'd have to do the fine tuning and what not with a wideband, etc. Since each car and setup is totally different, even though it could use the same parts, I could never tune it so that I would feel comfortable with you being stuck with that tune. I'd pretty much recommend the emulator to anyone. You need a laptop to run it, but yeah, I can socket ecu's and help from there.

believe it or not my ecu was socketed from factory.it still had factory seals on it and when i opened it i was suprised to find that it had a socket and a rom in it.perhaps i have a factory hot ecu, when i dump it i will post an image for all to play with.just needed to know what chip i needed to burn a rom since i need to burn a chip to control the injectors like i said.

Wow, that's awesome...it just pops right out? Well then yeah, it SHOULD be a 27c256 chip, but since yours is already socketed, maybe they tried something else on yours? Either way, if it has 28 pins, then the chip# I mentioned should work fine.
