Got my Eonon Gm5168U 2 days ago and finally had time to install into my 2011 Rogue yesterday. BTW...I got this unit for $280 USD from Eonon Ebay Store. For Canadians you pay $10 extra for shipping. I bought it on May 3rd and received it on May 8th. Shipped from China through FedEx, Paid about $20 Custom fees importing into Canada. Good thing they use FedEx because UPS would have charged way more due to their brokerage fees.

Here is the picture after all said and done.
Image

Here is a shot of the console with stock photo…before install

The above picture is not from my car (I had a CY26G stereo) but the layout are the same
Here is the CY26G stereo front and back after I took it out

So before you install the GM5168 you need to remove the trim both above and below the stereo

You remove the top fist
Image

Once you pop that open you will see 4 screws (ignore the speaker in the picture…that is for Bose only). Remove them so we can remove the mid-section panel later on.
Image

Now remove the bottom panel
Image

You don’t have to removed/disconnect any of the wire connections behind the A/C and Cig lighter on the panel…they are long enough to be moved out of the way when you pop the panel out.

Now remove the mid panel

Image

You will need to remove the emergency wire connection behind the button once you pop this panel out because this particular wire is very short.

Now you will have your stereo still attached to the console…remove the 2 top and 2 bottom screws that is holding the stereo in place and pull your stereo out. (The image is not exactly for CY26G but you get the idea)

Image

Now you will see the stereo has 2 mounting brackets (1 on each side) take them off and put it on your GM5168 in the same direction and order. You will notice only 3 screw holes (on each side) on the bracket will line up to the GM5168…don’t worry… 3 screws are good enough to hold it in place.
Image

Now unplug the 4 wire on the back of the CY26G

The hookup of the GM5168 is straight forward. However as you can see there are 4 connections on the original stereo (CY26G) and there are only 2 wire connections on the GM5168 but don’t worry since GM5168 has built in Bluetooth and IPod/IPhone connections those 2 wire are not needed.

Image

Follow the Eonon manual to hook everything up like it should using the original wires from the car…

I wired my GPS antenna from inside the stereo housing underneath the driver side dash to the side of the door behind the weather strip and all the way up to the left front dash.

Image

Image

For the USBs, IPod/IPhone connector and WIFI antenna I wire it to the glove compartment.

Image

As you can see I was too lazy to take out the whole glove compartment unit. I basically just squeeze my hand through behind the stereo housing and went behind the top of the glove compartment unit and found the only hole that opens to the inside the glove compartment and pulled all those wires in through there.

Image

Now just put your new GM5168 unit into where the stereo used to be and screw back the 4 screws and put back the panel in reverse order (Mid, bottom then top)… “Don’t forget to reconnect the emergency light wire” when you do the mid-section panel. (The Mid-section panel fit very tight around the GM5168 so you might need to play around with the direction a little…but they do fit nicely with no gaps at all)

Now go set up your newly installed GM5168 and enjoy.

Thanks for the write up! I've wondered how these Chinese knock offs would perform. Figured it's most likely a case of you get what you pay for.

What I was thinking too... Did some research and came to the conclusion that this is probably my best bet for the price I am willing to pay and for the features I am getting with 2 years manufacture's warranty... I really can't complain .... Yet :).

BTW... The company was founded in 2002 and looks like they are not like those flight by night manufactures.

es, against our advice, a customer bought in a touchscreen Eonon D1202 unit to replace his perfectly fine Pioneer single DIN unit.

Within a week, the internal PICO fuse blew, which resulted in his speakers and subwoofer emitting a constant and loud "hum". Trying to jab away at the clumsy touch screen is'nt exactly a joy either. You'll get what you pay for.

i have an eonon in my car and have the following to say about it.

1 Usability – The device is good if your stopped however you'll probably cause an accident if you try and change channels in traffic (you have to take your eyes off the road and look at it as there are no usuable/distinguishable buttons )

2 Features – The device has a large feature list however the majority of them are pointless and the good ones dont work very well. No 3.5 (only 2.5) Stereo jack on the front means you need to buy an adapter to plug an mp3 player in. No full sized USB on the front means you need to plug another adapter in to play mp3's (and the file browser is horrible) DVD player works however i have owned my unit for 2 years and only used it to make sure it worked.

Bluetooth audio quality is poor also

3 Build Quality – The Build quality is actually pretty amusing some of the casing fell off in 2 days of owning the product.

4 Software – Its horrible. every 5th or 6 turn of the key mine fails to display showing a white static page

5 Development and Support – This used to be good when myeonon.com was still around however its disappeared and now its non existent

Good thing? it fits in a doubledin hole? its full of surprises? LED's along the bottom decided to work yesterday which was nice?

Recommendation – Spend the 380 on a Single Din CD Player.. You wont use the DVD player and youll crash your car whilst trying to change tunes with the touch screen

Shoot I didn't see those reviews before I bought mine... How old were those reviews?

I can't speculate the cause of the blown fuse ... However I think If the stereo spot is low in your dash it certainly would be a bad idea to play around the device while driving and that would go the same for all brands on those particular cars with low stereo location. I find the software on my unit is quite good...responsive and you can even customize the on screen touch objects. I also tried Bluetooth function all day yesterday and it was good (for both calling and music) . I can't comment on the MP3 player since I dont use a stand alone mp3 player... but if I do I can just throw it into my glove compartment where the 2 usbs are at... the build on my unit looks and feels ok since it is fixed into my dash and not moving at all due to no external moving parts that I can play with (except the 2 nobs of course)... I actually went on their web site (eonon dot com) before I went to eBay and got mine (since eBay came with some extra stuff for the same price)... I had some questions and emailed them and took about a day to get a reply.... Not bad due to time difference. I saw some good reviews on the d5168 (d5168 is the same unit as GM5168 without th mirror/air play feature) before I decided to get my unit. Only time will tell and I will try to update this post once I spend more time with the unit.

The reviews are from three years ago Eonon Head Units. You do know you'll have to keep us updated on how it performs. ;)

Sorry...just realize its been more then an year since I posted this thread.

so after a year of use and abuse (I am in Alberta Canada so the weather is harsh in winter and I park my car outside on the street), it is still running strong. Nothing to complain (everything on the unit works like it should) except I can't use my steering wheel button to answer phone calls when they come in (the dash on the unit will still let you answer calls) since I didn't pay extra to buy the Phone connection on this unit...I wish they had it with the unit for free. Over all for the money this is a great value and I am glad I bought it.
