Hey everybody!
Just got back from doing a complete stock seat swap on my 1990 240sx. I posted a few days ago about the intention to replace my driver's seat with the passanger seat for a new stock look and feel. Thanks to everyone who helped me out and led me in the right direction. But, no one was quite certain if the whole seat could be done.
Well, I tell you it can! And it's quite easy too.
I know, I know. The seats aren't that great and I'm told the S15 are the better way to go. But, I was after that original factory look. Just newer. And I'm sure if I was looking how to do it quickly, somebody else must be as well.
In brief:
1. Four 14mm bolts secure the seat to the car. Remove them and get the seat.
A total of 8 bolts hold the seat together, 4 on either side, and 3 philips screws.
2. Remove the 3 screws that hold the plastic trim on the frame. One screw is on the release handle. Then, the plastic trip slides off towards the front of the seat.
3. Remove the two bolts on either side that secure the back of the seat to the reclining frame. These are 15mm bolts.
4. Flipping the cushion over, disconnect the spring that attatches the frame to the cushion.
5. Remove the two 12mm bolts that secure the frame to the chusion. Do this on either side.
6. Your seats are disassembled! Swap the spring to the other side (the seats really ARE universal) and then reassemble.
Some photos:
Marked in red arrows are the bolts that secure the seat to the frame. The blue arrows are for the screws.
The two bolts that hold the back to the seat. You'll have to push the cushion a bit to get to them.
Two bolts on the seat. Yay.
My friend's cat decided to make himself comfortable.
And lastly, the two seats, back together and swapped, ready for reinstallation!
Thanks again all! You've been a great help in my efforts to refit this wonderful car.
