Sarturday was the first night I really opened her up. Hadn't taken her to redline so the engine could break in. But then a SS Camaro tried to humilate a Ka-T and I ain't going to let that happen. While passing him I hit 6k in 3rd gear and the car just stopped moving....

I have a MDM techtom in my car and just went and did a couple pulls.Under WOT in 3rd gear car drops down to 15-17 degrees total timing at 5500rpms it is 19degrees, at 6000rpms it is 22, and and at 6200rpms it jumps to 27.........I'm at 15psi on a t3/t4...... 28 at wot is stock.... Car didn't make any detonation sounds or anything,Although you can hear a sound difference after 6k rpms..... it just stops moving.....

Is this a bad ecu tune, is the mdm techtom reading wrong?? Could it be something else beside the ecu???

I just tested my enthalpy tune with a techtom and everything is perfect except the timing. 2nd gear WOT im at 10degrees and 13 by redline. In 3rd gear im going from 13 to 16 by redline. Funny thing is I retarded base timing about 1-2 degrees just to make sure my engine would stay safe but when i saw that it was that low timing and my power was all gone, I knew something was wrong. I guess I can do nothing except send it back for a retune.

And for the record my car drives perfect now.

You could advance your timing.... My timing is perfect except for after 6k rpms it goes back to stock...Also the mdm has a delayed reading do your pulls in 3rd gear.... He knew i was goign to be running 15psi+ so i'm currently good for 20psi on pump gas until 6k rpms...

Also your mdm techtom only reads what your ecu puts out. So even if you are 4degrees retard your mdm techtom won't read that, what I've read about it. It reads the outgoing signal from the ecu.

Maybe spark blow out at 6k?? That might explain "just stops moving" but not what the MDM says... Atleast I wouldn't think it would.

Just got an email back..Going to reset my Safc and if need be raise my base fuel pressure.... to make it work. Maybe the safc affects timing more than we think......

What is the base fuel pressure supposed to be?

raise the fuel pressure and lean out the revs accordingly with the safc. this will result in advanced timing without changing the fuel map too much.

i think you just need better cams. ka's dont make much power after 6k anyway.

Map is fine until 6k where my timign goes form 17 to 27....I had to add fuel there... so wouldn't it retard timing?? BTW I have crower V2 cams.

I Just did some datalogging with my enthalpy tune. It is for 550/z32 t3t4... Do you guys get low timing values when slowly taking off from a start? My car stalls out if I try to take off like I would've NA. I get like 10 deg timing at 1.3V Maf and about .6V TPS whereas the stock would be abou 25 deg. ..

I hate having to spool the turbo just to take off from a start.

My car bogs for second when getting on it haven't checked the timing.... However from a stop if get on it from a get go it takes off nicely.....Mainly becaus you go WOT and no boost is made so you got all that extra fuel in there....

yes. that would retard timing, but why did you have to add fuel?

It went from mid 10's up to high 12's hit 13...So I'm goign to bump my base fuel pressure and try again.... It sucks not being able to go past 6k.....

First of all, I apologize for reviving such an old thread.

I just got a used Techtom MDM-100 which had been used successfully on a stock 1992 240SX and on an Altima. I plugged it into my car's Consult Port today and the gadget did absolutely nothing...

I'm running an EFI Specialist ECU.

I'm testing the Techtom on the seller's Altima tomorrow, where it had previously worked. I will also check my car's Consult Port voltages, but I assume they should be fine because my car is working properly.

I don't have the Techtom's instructions manual. Besides plugging it into the diagnostics port, are there any other specific instructions to operating the Techtom? Any ideas or suggestions will be appreciated.

Found the problem; replaced a blown back-up lights fuse and the Techtom worked.
