Enhancements for Bluetooth Phone

In case anyone at Nissan reads this forum, I would like to address some issues with the Bluetooth phone implementation, and hopefully they can incorporate these changes:

1. The phonebook entry process is overly cumbersome. Why does it take so many confirmations of the information I have entered to put in an entry?

2. Why can I enter a phone number to be dialed immediately while the vehicle is in motion, but I can't enter a phone number to be saved? The whole idea of not allowing me to enter new information while the vehicle is in motion is ridiculous. About the only thing I would agree with is not allowing me to pair a phone while in motion as this requires that I physically enter information into the phone. All the other information is typically coming from my memory. I can remember just as well while in motion as I can sitting at a stoplight. Since the voice activation is going to be used to make calls while the vehicle is in motion, I would think it would be preferable to let me enter my pronunciation of the name associated with an entry with the attendant wind and mechanical noise that would be present while in motion. It should make the voice recognition easier and more accurate.

3. The Bluetooth implementation should retrieve its phonebook information from my phone. It won't have my pronunciation of each entry, but let me add that separately, and then the car's phonebook would match my phone's phonebook.

4. Without text to speech the Bluetooth implementation could still use caller ID to announce who's calling. If a call comes in that matches a number in the phonebook, then use my pronunciation of that name (which is already stored for outgoing calls) to alert me as to who is calling. Something as simple as, "Incoming call from <MY PRONUNCIATION OF NAME>." If an incoming call's number is not in my phone book, and since there are only ten digits for the mechanical voice to speak, it seems that it should be fairly easy to put together an announcement that indicates the incoming call's number such as, "Incoming call from 8-0-0-5-5-5-1-2-1-2."

5. Allow me to interrupt the prompts (I think the telephony industry calls it "barge-in") so that I don't have to wait for each choice to be listed until I can answer a prompt.

6. Give me some way to enter digits while a call is in progress. So many auto-attendant phone systems require touch tone entries to navigate, it would be helpful if I could somehow speak those digits, as I do when making a call, and have those output as touch tone entries. Some companies such as American Airlines offer speech recognition in place of touch tone entries, but their systems tend to be so sensitive that if you cough you wind up navigating to places you didn't intend to go.

I hope others can offer suggestions, and perhaps Nissan could offer a firmware upgrade that provides some of these features.

I don't have it in front of me but I believe that #5 and 6 are covered in the users manual.

Well I can atleast help with number 5. you can definately interupt the system by hiting the phone button again. the system will <beep> and then tell it what to do, such as dial or delete. just FYI, I always do it this way I have no patience for that voice. hope this atleast helped

Because the system can be very idiotic at times, for some reason it thinks the word "Dad" is the same thing as "7#". It's to make sure the system doesn't screw up and save Pizza Hut's phone number over your wife's entry.

For safety reasons, and because most people write down phone numbers, it forces you to stop so you can safely read.

It took me almost 2 hours to input the bulk of my phonebook (not everything is there) and I don't have a terribly large phone book.

Another nice feature would be the ability to 'backup' the contents of the phone book, even if only by Nissan Service Dept.

First time I took my V in for the TPMS problem, they didn't have a clue and they reset everything...erasing several hours of programing....talk about pissed....and, as we are all aware, the 'fix' only lasted about 800 miles.

I have only tried to save one number into my phone book and it will not do that. Every time I try to voice dial a number or store this one it adds in numbers I mean off the wall crap like I'll say 495 and it will repeat back 4905 and the I'll say correction..... Then I'll say 495 .... it will repeat back 4895 and on and on and on. It's enough to drive me mad I drive for about 45mins to an hour on my way home from work and I have not been able to get it to recognize one freakn phone number correctly. It did it correctly one time when I first got the car that was it.Does anyone else have this problem? Can it be reset or reprogrammed?

Have you tried the procedure starting on page 4-39 titled "Training Procedure"? I have had a better results with the voice recognition after implementing this procedure.

You can enter digits while a call is in progress and it is laid out in the shortcut guide. you hit the call button and say some command and then the numbers (can't remember if it is send or dial or what, but it does exist and I have used it, once.)

Yes to the above. I use the "Send" ** to check my home messages all the time.

As for storing the phone numbers into the system...it is tidious and annoying. We owned the infiniti M35 before this and it had the blutooth as well. This one had a upgraded feature though, i would just tell it to sync with my phone and every number that was on the phone was now stored in the car and it showed caller id on screen as well. can't complain too much diferences when you pay 45k and when you pay 15k for your car.
