Because the system can be very idiotic at times, for some reason it thinks the word "Dad" is the same thing as "7#". It's to make sure the system doesn't screw up and save Pizza Hut's phone number over your wife's entry.

The whole idea of not allowing me to enter new information while the vehicle is in motion is ridiculous. About the only thing I would agree with is not allowing me to pair a phone while in motion as this requires that I physically enter information into the phone. All the other information is typically coming from my memory. I can remember just as well while in motion as I can sitting at a stoplight. Since the voice activation is going to be used to make calls while the vehicle is in motion, I would think it would be preferable to let me enter my pronunciation of the name associated with an entry with the attendant wind and mechanical noise that would be present while in motion. It should make the voice recognition easier and more accurate.
Because MOST people are NOT good enough with numbers to remember them off the cuff. For safety reasons, and because most people write down phone numbers, it forces you to stop so you can safely read.
Quote »3. The Bluetooth implementation should retrieve its phonebook information from my phone. It won't have my pronunciation of each entry, but let me add that separately, and then the car's phonebook would match my phone's phonebook.
Agreed. It took me almost 2 hours to input the bulk of my phonebook (not everything is there) and I don't have a terribly large phone book.
Quote »4. Without text to speech the Bluetooth implementation could still use caller ID to announce who's calling. If a call comes in that matches a number in the phonebook, then use my pronunciation of that name (which is already stored for outgoing calls) to alert me as to who is calling. Something as simple as, "Incoming call from <MY PRONUNCIATION OF NAME>." If an incoming call's number is not in my phone book, and since there are only ten digits for the mechanical voice to speak, it seems that it should be fairly easy to put together an announcement that indicates the incoming call's number such as, "Incoming call from 8-0-0-5-5-5-1-2-1-2."
Or if it were linked to the car's phonebook, use the text display on the stereo to display the name of the caller.
