I went to look at a 65 1300 pickup and a 70 1600 pickup a couple of weeks ago.  I really like the style and size of these trucks.  But both of them need an engine and I would like to find out what engines out of what truck/car I might be able to buy and install.  With the price of gas, 4 cylinders will help me make ends meet a little closer.

Thanks for all your help!

Ok a 65 would be a L 320 that came with the E-1 engine. The 70 is a PL 521 which came with the L 16 from the factory but the L 18 & L 20 engines will also "bolt in". The L motors were used in the 510's, 620's & the 521's. Note this, the L 20 is about 1 inch taller than the 16 & 18 & may affect the hood closing depending on what carb. your running. I believe the E-1 engine were also used in the early Datsun fairlady's.

A 65 1300 pickup would be a 520.  Yes, they did make them in 65.  The 320 and 520 kind of overlapped in 1965.  And in that case, the original engine would be a J13.

I don't know if it has been suggested or if you have worked it out, but try forklift wreckers for J series and similar H series engines. I have a J15 in my L320 and she sits beautifully with the original box behind her.
Cheers and Good luck!:D
