ok I have a few questions
how can I tell the year of my engine?
I have a JDM crate motor and about to do the rebuild, gaskets kits on Z1 requires 90-94 or 95, 96
also when did they switch over to the new fuel rail?
any help would be great thankyou

http://z32.wikispaces.com/Fuel+Injector for years and styles, etc. The fuel rail isn't definitive though, because you could completely swap it out and the lower plenum (has different shaped holes for the new style injectors). A 96 won't have VTCs. If its a turbo engine, but has an "NA" power steering pump it would be 94+ for when they went to electric HICAS, but that's still not 100% either because a lot of people remove HICAS and swap the pump. Not sure if there are any other good clues here: http://z32.wikispaces.com/Year+Differences

Almost positive yours is a 90-94. You have VTC intake gears so you don't have a 96 for sure, and you have an old style, pre-94 CAS.

Older, pre-94 style:

New, 94+ style:
