Engine wont rev over 1300 rpm in any gear

The engine in my 01 Maxima wont rev over 1300. If I hit 1300 in any gear, the car lurches terribly. To drive it, I have to shift quickly before this happens and get to 3rd or 4th and try to keep the rpms down. The fastest I can go is about 50-55 in 5th gear. I havn't had any problems with it til this and have always kept up on my maintenance. Anyone have any ideas or anything to check? It feels like maybe the fuel is cutting out and the engine's choking. There are no codes stored in the ECU. Everything works and sounds fine up until 1300rpm.

Make sure all the hoses connecting to your intake plumbing are connected. If they are, you probably have a bad MAF.

You're right, it was the MAF. I had installed a K&N air filter recently and it looks like the oil on the filter was sucked off and coated the MAF. I cleaned it off with brake parts cleaner and the problem's fixed. I'll be using regular paper air filters from now on; those K&N's obviously arn't good, at least in the Maxima. Thanks for the tip.

I changed from the K&N to the AEM dryflow filter.
