you should be able to look up inside the bottom end from where the oil pans used to be..... pour in a capful of oil in each cyl.... get a socket wrench 27mm is what fits (you don't have to buy a big 1/2 in. rachet if you don't have one, you can get an adapter to fit your 3/8" rachet)... and try this again before you start taking anything else off (PITA), i would be suprised if your engine turned fine before (although i don't think i could turn mine without a socket wrench) and now seized from you just fiddling around....

Ive got the wrench and socket to turn the crank. If you think its siezed there is nothing I can tell you that will convince you otherwise. Might as well buy a new shortblock or just get another SR. The crank is kind of easy to turn by hand, but if the transmission is connected then it could be harder.

I dont know how much he wants for it but it'll be very cheap. Check your PM's on NWN, I sent you one a week or two ago. They are both SR pumps.

Well,The weird thing is that it USED to turn fine!!! Until I pulled the head, then that's when it would stop turning when #2 and #3 were at TDC. It would just stop either way I turned it. Now I can't even get it to turn at all with the chain off!! I will look into it more this weekend or maybe even tonight. I think I will go ahead and purchase an adjustable wrench so I can turn the crank without using the crank bolt. I'll pull the transmission as well and maybe that will help. But is it really possible for the motor to be seized even though it used to turn fine not too long ago?? It's just been sitting in my garage!!! This is really gettin me here........

I would have to take a look, because from your descriptions there is no reason why it would have siezed. The way you make it sound, it seems like it will turn but your just not able to do it.

Speedracer:Yup you pretty much got the whole thing!!! This really sucks!!! I tried to turn it yesterday using a 27mm socket and I really tried to turn it!! Well maybe not too hard, but I did try to turn it quite a bit. Hard enough to where I had to use a hammer to loosen the bolt again. I will try to turn it clockwise when I get the wrench though and see if I can loosen it that way. Maybe I could stick the crank pulley back on there and try to turn it by hand that way..... I was able to turn it by hand before with the pulley on. I'll pm you on NWN if I really can't figure this whole thing out and maybe you can come down and take a look. Thanks!!

Ok,Well I got the motor to turn so I don't think that my motor is seized. I'm still experincing the same problem though with not being able to turn the motor for full revolutions. I can turn it just about 360 degrees and then it'll stop. Like it locks up. And I can do it both ways, counter clockwise and clockwise. It always stops in the same EXACT position. #2 and #3 are at TDC. I had a couple of my buddies take a look and they were dumb-founded on why it does that. If all else fails, I will bring the block to a shop and have it checked out. But I would rather try to figure this one out myself (with some help of course) rather than bring it to a shop. So any help would GREATLY be appreciated!!! Thanks!!!

Is the transmission off? if not, get it the hell off of there. Also remove the clutch and flywheel. Put the engine on a stand (you can buy one at harbor freight for about $30). Turn it upside down and remove all the oil pans, oil pick-up tube, baffles, and all that crap so that you can get to the connection rod bolts.Remove one piston/rod set at a time and try turning the crank after each step until it rotates freely. That should point you in the right direction.

If you wanna let the shortblock go for cheap if its damaged, let me know.

transmission is off, but I still have to remove the clutch and flywheel. Also, is that Harbor Freight a online store? $30 bucks aint bad for a stand. So basically I'm gonna HAVE to tear the whole thing apart!?!? Man, that's what I was scared off...... Is there anything I should be careful when taking all this apart??

label and bag all the fasteners that you remove. Also label & save all the bearing shells.

Harbor freight sells cheap crappy tools. They are online, but your town should have a tool store that sells that kind of cheap crap, just call around a little.

Ok,Think I'm gonna go down to the local auto store this weekend and rent me a engine stand. I am also trying to get a hold of my Uncle who's the head mechanic down here at a local Firestone to see if I can get away with fixing this damn thing for free (If not, a case of beer will do him fine, :) )This problem is really really REALLY gettin me!!! I seriously cannot think if anything that would cause this other than something stupid!!!

do a sanity check man... Put your back to the motor and forget EVERYTHING you think you know. Turn back around and recheck everything you have checked. Look everywhere you can see. It sounds like you dropped a bolt in someplace it shouldn't be or something. Can you turn the crank with the pressure plate/Flywheel assembly? If you turn the crank fairly quickly (not too fast) is there a metallic sound when it stops? Maybe there is something lodged in the oil pump...

Before you tear it down you should definately look over it again and maybe have an observent friend who doesn't know a whole lot about motors look at it. They might go "Hey is that thing supposed to be in there?" It's happened to me before.

Good luck. I hope it's something lodged somewhere!

All right, tried the sanity check thing and it didn't work........ I couldn't stop think about why it wouldn't turn. So I decided to take the clutch off and then the flywheel, BUT I could not get 3 of the bolts holding the flywheel off!!! So here we are again stuck at another problem.....weak. Not really a problem, but something just to add onto the pain. I doubt that a bolt would be stuck in there as I never remember ever dropping one. I can turn the crank with the flywheel assembly and there is no grinding sounds at all!! Cylinder walls are as smooth as a babies butt!!! I'll double check the oil pump as well. Well I'll be taking a real good look at this thing during the weekend so hopefully I can report back on Monday with some good news.

i got my flywheel bolts off using a 12 sided socket, and a breaker bar... but i had to have someone hold the crank on the other side with a 27mm and then you can actually get some force into it....

I used a screwdriver and got it stuck on the teeth of the flywheel. I go on break next wednesday, I can take a look basically anytime after that if you want.

Hey Speedracer,I think I may have to take you up on that offer!!! I will try to take the flywheel off this weekend so it'll be ready to inspect. You don't happen to have an engine stand or anything do you?? If not, that's fine. I'll pm you on NWN so we can set something up. Thanks!!!

Nope, Nothing yet!! Well, actually didnt' have any REAL time to check anything. I just tried to take off the 3 remaining bolts off of my flywheel, in which I wasn't successful. Those things are on there!!! I used a 27mm socket to stop the motor from rotating and I really got on those bolts and no luck. Just kept slipping off. I don't really want to try anymore because I really don't want to strip the bolts. As for getting the motor to turn, still no luck. It kinda seems like it's coming from the flywheel because when I turn the crank using the flywheel, it feels like something is jamming up in there. So once I really get these bolts off, then I'll know if it was something with the flywheel. For good news, my Uncle is coming over to check out what's up with this motor. He has mass experience working on JDM car including Skylines. He's built the motors for the GTR's up here in Seattle from Garage SPL (the local people should know them). So hopefully he should be over by this weekend. I just can't wait to get this thing going. I'll be repainting my engine bay before month end so hopefully the motor will be ready to be dropped in.

HOLY COW! if that was my uncle, i would have kidnapped / uncluenapped him a long time ago.... and are you using a 12 pt socket on those flywheel bolts? the point of 12 sided bolts is to get the TIGHT withought stripping....

edit: i bet that engine starts spinning on its own when unky unkleton walks into the room.... if not *****slap that sr and threaten to throw it out for an rb... it'll behave....

Yeah, I would of called him a long time ago, but I didn't know he was back in town. So now that I know, I'll be calling him more frequently, hahaha!! I am using the 12 point sockets, but the thing still won't come lose. I'd juiced it up with about a gallon of WD-40 and still no luck. If anything, I'll just have my uncle take it off. So hopefully he can come sometime this week and check everything out. I'll be posting pcitures of my engine bay in the 240sx general chat so if any of you wanna take a look at a pressure washed engine bay, it'll be there!!!

if you can get to an impact wrench they take bolts off really well:) they knock just about anything loose without stripping!

Yeah, I do have an impact wrench, but am timid to use it because I seriously don't want to strip them bolts. I will have a go at it tonight though and see what happens. By the way, here is a link to my post with pictures of my cleaned engine bay if any of you guys wanna take a look.http://www.nissaninfiniticlub....56301:ylsuper

Alright!!! Got the flywheel bolts off!! It's not the main problem, but it's one step closer!! I took a look inside and could not see anything obstructing the path of the crank or anything. I really don't even know what I'm looking for other than something that "looks" out of place. I'll take some detailed pics tonight of the inside of the block so you guys can take a look and see if you guys can notice anything out of the ordinary. Hopefully my uncle can make it down this weekend.....

Hey Speedracer,Sounds good!! I don't want to burden you coming all the way down to Auburn from Bellevue though. I'll see if my uncle can come down this weekend but if that plan falls through, do you mind coming to check it out sometime next week?? Let me know when the best time for you is. I normally get off work around 3:30pm but I can get off earlier too. PM me on NWN (mine doesn't work here for some reason) or email me at [email protected] and we'll exchange info there. Thanks for all your help and I'll let you know what's up. Oh, you still have that S13 PS Pump right? I should be at the meet this Saturday so get it from you then. Thanks again!!!

Ok,So I talked to my uncle and he's been real busy so he hasn't had the time to come down yet. But he gave me advice on what to look for last night and so I did what he told me. While I was sitting on my chair staring up into the block with a flashlight, I notice a small light shining through the crank. Guess what it was??? A FREAKIN hole!!!! And I don't think that hole was suppose to be there!!! So I feel around and notice a bulge where the hole is. The hole is at the very front of the crank right before #1. So when #2+3 are TDC, the hole maybe hitting the block. I'll post pics of it later. Anyways, any ideas on what this actually means?? I posted some requests for a new crank and even a SR shortblock. I can get a crank for $125 shipped which IMO isn't bad. But do you think that it's the only problem?? Everything else looks in good condition so I'm thinking that the reason it's not turning is because the crank is hitting the block because of that bulge. This sucks.......any help would REALLY REALLY be appreciated. Thanks.....:(

Does it look like a broken hole? And is the bulge the same texture as the rest of the crank? I doubt your crank got a hole in it outside of the car.

Yeah, it actually does. I spoke w/my uncle and he said that since it's on the counter weight and it's so small, it really wouldn't matter and it shouldn't be the cause of the motor not turning. The hole is probably about 1/16-1/8 on an inch, so it's REALLY REALLY small. I'm gonna pour some more oil down the cylinders to see if that'll lube stuff up some more. If all else fails, I'm gonna have to tear the block apart. Also, my uncle is for sure coming tomorrow so I'll post how everything goes.
