I have fuel/spark, but for some reason, I can't get my car started. It turns over fine, but it just won't start. I'm wondering if it might be something related to my distributor, after modifying it for the MSD BTM. Or, if I could have just put the dist. in wrong. Any input is appreciated.

1: check your timing2: reduce variables. if you know your car ran with the old setup, put the orig ignition system back in and try again.once its running fine, put in the msd system

check all your wiring too. and if you can, find a friend that knows about cars and have him look it over. Use a factory service manual as you go.

yeah I would definetly suggest checking the timing first... and also make SURE youve got that spark and fuel. Do you have a timing light?

what do u mean by it wont start though? will it crank up and just die or what?If its a distributor installed incorrectly, here's how to fix it.Set your motor to TDC. Then pull the spark plug wires off the distributor and pull off the distributor cap. You have to line up the silver rotor to where the #1 spark plug wire would go on the distributor. You have to hold the distributor cap right where it enters the pin sticking out of the distributor. Its cake after that. Just start out the distributor somewhere at 10:00 and just move it around until you get it right. If this doesnt fix your problem, then i dont know what will (I wont be much help for other things).

The first time I rebuilt my engine it wouldn't start either. Turns out the dist was installed incorrectyl. Due what klattr is suggesting. That should help.

I think I may not be getting proper oil pressure either. We'll see, I'll get it started.

I would reccomend following SunshineAcid's advice. Check your timing. If you timing is off you will not get any compression, which means your spark and fuel that you have will not do squat. You can either pull your timing covers and check your marks to see if they line up correctly. Or if you have a compression tester you can use it to see if you are building proper compression.

I'm having a similar problem, I just read in another post that it could be due to a faulty coolent temp sensor which is making the fuel mixture to rich. I havn't put coolent in the radiator yet (figured I'd try to get it started first.) could that be why my car won't start? I'll try it first thing tomorow, just curious what you all thought though and maybe this might help red24one if he hasn't figured it out yet.
