changed oil last saturday (23rd)

drove to sarasota last week 2x (about 115 miles round trip)

noticed loss of accelerationover last couple of days.....

...checked oil today... none.

added back old oil, still no compression? car will not accelerate.

is my engine screwed? no rough idle, no hesitation while revving, no engine or oil lights:help :help :help

not sure exactly when the engine went dry...and the car wasn't driven at all on this past Fri sat or sun... the lack of acceleration happened today, really. Checked the oil and it was pretty much dry.

and no oil stains on the ground beneath the car? if so that means u went dry before parking the car so u coulda driven a few miles with it empty. but first question how did it get empty? i assume a leak cuz it would be pretty hard to burn it that fast

i found some where the car sat over this past weekend... i think maybe the oil filter may have been not tight enough, or possibly the drain plug, but not likely.

How much did you have to add? If you had to add the "capacity" I'd say there's no good outcome, unless you found a 3quart stain under the car. Hope it's nothing, but it sounds bad :(.

After you added oil back to the car, does the oil stay if it sits for a day or 2? If you try to turn the engine over (or start) do you end up with any oil on the plugs?

If you blew your rings, you would have no compression (hence the lack of acceleration) and it would burn oil like a mofo! So that might have been your problem.

If you're not too mechanically inclined, I would definitely take your car into a shop to have it done. But it'll cost you quite a bit, because rebuilding engines is expensive work. :(

why would you add the OLD oil back to the car? eeww

umm..so the car idles fine in park and neutral without smoking, but when put into drive it doesn't go anywhere?

old is better than none....

this is a 5 speed... i release the clutch the engine continues to rev, and would slowly accelerate, but now it doesn't accelerate.

sounds like a bad clutch to me. if the engine is accelerating and the clutch pedal is released but u are not going anywhere then its a clutch/transmission problem. although the oil consumption confuses me. so ur saying that the engine runs perfectly fine when revving and idleing but u cannot go anywhere?

old isn't better than none..get a quick ride to a gas station or an auto parts store and buy a few quarts. I'd cringe at thinking about putting old oil back into my engine.

Anyway, sounds as if your engine survived..the problems lies elsewhere, start looking at the clutch as suggested. Good luck.

i was just pondering on how he lost all his oil and his clutch is slipping(most likley) at the same time. possibly the engine oil sumehow leaked into the clutch which led it to slip.

Bad rear seal might cause oil to get on the clutch, however, it would just be stuck inside the bellhousing and wouldn't go anywhere else. So unless his bellhousing is full of engine oil, I would probably rule that out as a possibility.
