I have a real bad engine vibe that is driving me nuts. From idle to 3k all is great and smooth. Once I hit 3k and up it feels like the engine is going to come apart. Not so much a noise or shaking but a deep vibration within the engine itself. Lay your hand on the valve cover and it feels like a numbing (vibrator) sensation. I would have to say a rotation issue. The car is a 98 w/ 190k miles, no leaks, no smoke, idles great, and gets good gas mileage!

How is the KA24DE balanced? Is it possible it became unbalanced somehow? timing chain rubbing on something? Bad cams? Injector not firing? I almost want to give up and replace the engine all together. Anyone have any ideas?

Hey, i have the same exact problem as you on my s14 also. i havent been able to track what it might be. I removed my upper timing chain guide and that didnt help anything. Mine starts the vibration from like 3k to 3500 rpm then its smooth again so it might be just a small problem thats making the noise since it doesnt vibrate above that. I can feel the vibration though my shifter when this happens. Also as you described when you put your hand on the valve cover and rev your car with the throttle cable it vibrates alot and then it goes away. I hope someone points out a solution to this annoying problem cause my motor runs great just that it vibrates alot.

My engine is original it still has the vin tag attached. Its a funny thing. Before I replaced my engine mounts the vibe was transmitted thru the whole car. Now with fresh mounts it has no where to go but thru the transmission to the driveshaft. Now on de-celeration I get a nasty vibe coming from the d/s. I had the d/s balanced again and its fine.

So I really need to find this vibe. Anyone have a OBD II KA for sale?

i removed my engine and when put back i put mounts on upside down, a friend just pointed this out to me on sat... only my engine and transmission shook re orienting the mounts cleared it right up, its kinda silly they fit both ways but one way makes everything shake badly
