Hi,
I am new to NICO as I dont own Nissan or an Infiniti. However, my father is in the hospital and my mother's 2006 G35 started to experience problems. I came home from Afghanistan for emergency leave but I will be returning shortly. So I am trying to help them out while I still can. Any help you could provide would be very appreciated.
The problem is I hear a very loud vibration/almost a rattle coming from the engine bay during acceleration. It gets really bad over 2000 RPM. I used a stethoscope and it sounds like its coming from the Power steering pump. Looking at the replacement price I am not to eager to swap it out w/o confirming its the problem. Anybody have an experience like this? Could it be the idler pulley?
FYI, the belts are old and starting to crack. I hear some whining during Idle. Again, any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks you in advance.

Remove the drive belt and retest. You can drive it a bit without belts on it so don't worry there. If the noise is gone then you know it's not engine related but an accessory. Go from there.

yeah start with the belt...

fluid in power steering low or old?... its kind of a pain to flush it... but that could be another thing to do before you buy a new one.
