engine tuning

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

I recall reading when the EX was announced that the engine was basically the same as the G's engine but that it was "detuned" to lower the HP and torque. I drove a loaner G this week and really felt a difference, although some of that might be due to transmission gearing differences. I can't believe that Infiniti would go to the expense and logistical trouble to modify the internals of the engine. If I am right about that, then I guessing the differences would be the result of the programing of the ECU. This raises the question that if my assumption is correct that only the ECU programming is different, then is there a way to reprogram the EX to get back the HP and torque of the G's engine?

Second question: I've seen on Hypertech, Jet, etc chips to increase performance. Any one have suggestions or mods made to increase engine performance?

Some factors that make the EX slower:

1. I think the EX has a different final drive ratio in the rear end (higher)2. It has a more restrictive, quiet, exhaust system. 3. It weighs more than the G4. If you are comparing an AWD ex to a 2WD G35 then the AWD EX is slower than the 2WD EX

Most all of the small performance gains via ECU tweaks are based upon raising the redline and eliminating safe guards for fuel quality. The maps are changed to assume premium fuel always. In some cases there are torque management parameters that can be tweaked which were put in place to protect the the drive train during high power shifts.

I personally wouldn't mess with the ECU programing, I don't think you will gain much and you could run into warranty problems/complications.

The fastest way for more power is turbos or a super charger; each of which have their ups and downs along with creating warranty complications.

I finally removed my spare tire on my AWD journey and just bought myself a 5 IBS Slime heavy duty tire compressor (3 minutes inflation) and some tire kit plug. I only drive 12 miles to work anyway and If I have a blown tireI can call Infiniti roadside assistance. Some my not agree with me, but I live in the city and there are lot`s of tire shop around. I also removed unneccessary weight in my car-Even the rear headrest are removed. Most says a 100 IBS lost in weight will only gain .1 sec 0-60 or 1/4mile.

Might be a placebo effect, but really! I felt the car is a lot responsive, specially in a stop and go traffic or Stop light to stop light.I wonder how much more responsive it will be when I switch to summer tire with a 17IBS rims each. I just can`t wait!

Our darn seats are also heavy! I guess it weighs 75 ibs each!

Don't forget to keep your fuel tank almost empty and you can't refill your washer fluid.

Seriously though, I just swapped my winter wheels last week for my summers and really notice the difference going from the Blizzaks to the Dunlops. I always run winter wheels and every spring you have the fun of rediscovering your car when the winter "boots" come off.

Wow - you're brave, being in T.O. and doing so this early. In Ottawa we do get more snow, but I wouldn't do the changeover until Apr is over.

Cheers,David

I changed wheels for driving to Florida. Winter tires are like chewing gum when it's 80 degrees.

Thanks, Jmess, and to follow up on point 4, both were RWD.

I have to argue with that statement. Our AWD is faster and quicker of the

line vs. the RWD EX35 or G35 RWD. If there are 2+ inches of snow. A lot

faster if It wears the regular winter boots

Most trucks and suv ate my "snow flakes" off the line

But summer sucks! and you win!

So which one is really quicker EX35 RWD or EX35 AWD is depends on the

person you are asking. Canadian and Alaskan might say AWD .

Mexicans will say RWD.. LOL!

I went through some of these issues when I removed the run flat/crap tires from my Vette and went with some BFG KDW2s. I ended up getting the Continental Comfort Kit from the Tire Rack. The sealant is latex based and isn't supposed to ruin the tire pressure sensors. I thoroughly hated the run crap tires on the Vette and is one of the reason I passed on the 328i Wagon.

I only bought the compressor with plug kit. I asked most shop regarding using slime sealant and most of them will not work on my tire if I put one.So slime sealant use is out of the question. I think I`m ok with heavy duty compressor and plug kit. I hardly drive at night either and drive 12 miles away from house to work.

Using tire plug is so fun, just make sure you grind enough for the plug to seat properly. and try not to use fix-a-flat material, my boss's M35 just came back from Infiniti Service Center for TPMS sensor repair, they refused to replace it under warranty due to "Inflating Tire repair can through TPMS sensors..." Well, is there any way to bypass them?
