is it better to put all the aftermarket parts on a sr20 then swap it or to swap it then get the aftermarket parts

depends on your budget. it would seem to me; drop it in, get it wired up and running. After you have worked all the bugs out you only have to worry about the rebuild. If you do it in one shot you run the risk of the engine running screwy while you try to get the computer and wiring squared away, the engine might not break in properly as a result.

technically yes, but it has sat for quite a while, and its sitting in a different car. u might not need to break it in, but i felt that it would be better safe than ****ed

I just want to know where everyone is getting all the money for these swaps? I mean I was broke after just buying the car.

I started mowing yards for neighbors when I was about 10, I've been saving that money ever since and gradually progressed up to a real job :) It's amazing how much you can save up doing that.

so which is it, swap the motor break it in again, and then put the mods on. Or to put on the mods, which is easier when not in the bay and then swap it?

Dude I don't even under stand what you're asking. Are you saying put all the "aftermarket/performance" parts on the sr before you drop it in the engine bay? I don't think I'd do that. Or are you asking about putting performance parts on a KA and then swapping the engine in? If thats what you plan on doing id swap the gine first because certain things will need to be changed, like if you put on headers.

I think he means

a) Buy an SR20, drop it in, then modify itorb) Buy an SR20, modify it, then drop it in

I'm in cali so engine swaps are out of the question.. thx CARB! I would love to turbo my KA.. $$$$$$.. need to save up for like 6 yrs before I would be able to afford it.

drop the engine in first and get it running. it's much easier to diagnose problems that way cause no swap ever goes 100% perfectly. my friend finished doing an S14 swap and we ran into problems where the engine had been upside down for some time, so when it was cranked, it started burning oil like no one's business. not to mention two of the cylinders weren't firing and the MAF that he had purchased on eBay was the wrong one. Things like that would have been hard to have discovered had we had any aftermarket stuff attached to the engine.
