I had the car for about 2 weeks then got the oil changed and then the engine started ticking. i notice it had a small oil leak around the vavle cover and still not have fixed that.I have used marvel mystery oil in it and no luck on the niose going away it is still there.I have checked the oil and still has oil up to the max line.I have searched the forums for anything like this but have not found any thing.I notice the oil is black. I am not sure if that would cause it or not.I have read in the forums that 5w-30 is not good for the ka engine because the engine burns it fast.

You need to change the valve cover gasket. You might just be hearing the oil spraying out of the leak in the valve cover gasket. Or something. Or it could be that the oil you used wasn't thick enough for your engine, so you're hearing the parts moving.

I put in 5w-30 because that is what the cars owners manual says to use.But I will get the oil change again and make sure they put in 10w-30 or 10w-40.And hope that solves the problem and i will get the valve gasket replaced so that I can make sure that the oil leak stoped I hope.

they ? .. you don't change your own oil? sometimes dealerships will put in higher weight oil in cars so you can't hear the engine knocking (something i heard). so i think there is some validity to the lower viscosity oil statement. thicker oil should help. but im no professional mechanic.

Found out today that the shop that I have a bigger oil leak then I thought I had so I am thinking that is what is causing the ticking in the engine.
