Hi!
I have a rebuilt 2.4 engine that makes a ticking sound when idling and hot. Could it be a valve lifter? It seems too intermittent to be the Timing chain.
The engine is still in its 500 mi break-in period and I would like to find if the Rebuilder made a mistake before the 1 year warranty expires.

Welcome to NICO, Timothy!

It's possible it's the valve lifter, but the timing chain guides could also be worn. My advice is to take it back to the rebuilder regardless if it's making a strange noise and it's under warranty. I would believe they should rectify the situation. Good luck!

RicerX,
Thanks for the advice. Time to make some phone calls.
