We just had a nasty cold snap here in the dfw area and Ive noticedMy temp gauge never gets above 2 or 3 ticks from the bottom. No where near where it is on a warmer day. A little below middle.

Is that normal or do I have a stuck open/Missing Thermostat ??

Thank gawd for the heated sets

Thermostats usually degrade after 3-4 years and should be replaced.

The mode is as you describe failure to heat up fast as the rubber surreound has worn and coolant bypasses the element..............ONLY USE OEM NISSAN THERMOSTATS never copies!

in Siberia we sometimes close the air intake i front and put some warm material under the hood during winter time so the engine warms up faster and stays warm.

Im leaning towards Techs advice. If its 40 something all is good .If its freezing my gauge barely moves at all.And I have a 20 mile commute on the highway.

improperly functioning coolant temperature sensor causes the engine to run rich, clean the contact, and i hope that this would fix one problem, if it does not, then replace the sensor, i think it is about 30$ from the dealer, here is the location of the sensor

now to access the thermostat, it takes longer than the chevys, you have to remove the fan to clear up space to reach it, then remove both aluminum coolant hoses to get to the thermostat (i cant remember the bolt sizes, i think they were a hex, but i have them in the timing belt replacement write-up), here is the location of the thermostat

Thanx bud ..I doubt its the sensor because the temp gauge stays way low.And on a warmer day it reads accordingly.

2 sensors one for inside gauge [very inaccurate] and one for ecu [very accurate]. Nether fail frequently.

Whereas thermostat out sell the sensors by 200:1.

We always REQUIRE a new thermostat and water pump and misc when we sell a new timing belt replacement. Never frequent enough but better than nothing.

Hey 95-J30t

Do you have a timing belt replacement write up on this site?

I searched, and checked the how-to's but couldnt find it.

Do you have a link?
