Hey. I've got a 1990 240 with the sohc Ka. We just replaced the transmission because it was toast. Now that we have finished that the car runs and shifts fine. But it idles kinda ruff and when you give it gas it takes a while to get above 3500rpm. Especially when you have it in gear. It's like the brakes are on all the time. It just won't climb rpms very fast at all when you try and drive it. I had a 91Silvia with the Sr20det. The engine in the 240 acts like my SR did when I'd blow an intake line and the air wasn't being monitored by the MAFS. I checked all lines after MAFS and no leaks. Could it be the MAFS??

I also posted this in the KA section. TIA

I think the Mafs is fine. I took it out and it appears to look very clean. When I unplug the Mafs it dies and runs like crap. So I figure it is working.

The car is still running bad. It won't accelerate very fast at all. Takes forever to get to 55mph. When you first start it, black smoke comes out the exhaust and it is running really rich. When it is out of gear you can rev it up and runs ok. It is slower climbing rpms until 3k+ rpms then it revs good. But when it's in gear and your driving it is like your spinning your wheels and not going nowhere. Backfires quite a bit also. We have the CAT cleaned out though. But I still think it backfires more than what it should....Thanks

DID YOU TEST YOUR MAF AS DESCRIBED ABOVE?
