I've been surfing the 'Net for info on possible swaps for my '68 Roadster. I found this site while looking at the KA24de as a possibility. My goal is something a bit more modern than the R16 but something that doesn't require body/frame modifications.

At first, I was set on an L20b swap, but I've heard alot about the KA24de. In the 1600/2000 thread someone said that the CA18 might be better. Any insights into the pros & cons of these swaps would be appreciated. I know the SR20 is like the ideal engine, but it's just not as easy to locate for me.

i say look for a ca18et. sohc turbo, 5 spd. good for the car. you can get a whole 200sx with that motor real cheap, you just have to look.

me n my bro just bought a 200sx(s12) and it was only 400bucks...the oil pan gasket is leakin and i think the front seal is too, but not badly, oh and the dash flickers occasionally..n it will prolly need a new tps, its easier to get hp than a ka24de is b/c its already turbod. easier potential than my ka

I think the SR20DET would be physically too big. They only just fit into a 1600's engine bay.I reckon go the CA aswell!the CA18DET is actually LIGHTER than a L20B!!!and makes 130kw (175HP) factory....by the time you pull off the aircon and p/steering pumps, give it an exhaust and a decent intercooler.....you'll be about set for 200HP or more at the flywheel!

IMO you should install a N/A Sr20de into the roadster. Get in touch with Michael Spreadbury he does these swaps alot and it turns the roadster into a fun and very fas car. Michaels website is Spriso.com...

I hope your not honestly asking that...

have you popped the hood on a Z? Have you seen a I4?

V12's fit in a Z engine bay, the SR and rotaries are tiny in the engine bay

that is a very clean install on a clean chassis, I just can't bare the thought of parting with 2 cylinders and .8 liters

my car isn't set for drags either but it's nice to get a benchmark, much like knowing your cars weight and dyno numbers, mine weights 2180 and puts 220whp and 260lbft at last dyno, guessing somewhere closer to 250 &300 now and I need to get it back on the drags casue I know it'll cruch the 13.010 it ran with the stock injection setup

Was going to, but it fell through. Maybe in a few weeks if I find another cheap one.

I'm sure you get asked this a lot but is there any source you have about this swap? I'm assuming Vidini Motorsports did it but how hard was the swap? What was involved? Again I'm sorry to ask these probably common questions but your swap fascinates me. I just wanted to see if you had more information for it.

a CA18DET would be more exspensive to come buy....being as we never got them in the US...the CA18et is fairly easy to run across though...it makes around 120hp stock...

as far as being able to find though, the KA is everywhere! it is however a bit bigger then a CA18ET...

if you wanna make a mutt car...there's always the 22r...give it a 20r head off of an older celica and it'll make for a better flowing, slightly higher CR engine. and it's a Freakin' 22R, parts are dirt cheap and it's bullet proof.

you can only make the hybrid with a pre '86 22r block however, I believe it was changed and the deckheight increased. but they also had turbo models introduced that year that can take 19psi on stock internals..

I'd like to see you keep it nissan personally. We need to find you a U20...
