Engine Swapping with an infiniti

The redneck I bought my zx from really hotroded the thing around like Ratfink and now my engine is all worn out. I just happened to find in a salvage yard a good looking engine in a 93 Infiniti J30. It has 170 thousand on it and a single turbo (one step up from my NA). If I trade in the old engine the price will only be $250. Can I fit this J30t engine into an NA Nissan body? What kind of modifications will I have to make and how much extra will it cost? Thanks for any help.

are you planning on doing the work yourself? if not it could cost way more then its worth with 170k... i do believe that they are well built engines but if you want someone to do it for you its just not worth the time or the money.

J30's weren't turbo charged. The T in J30T doesn't stand for turbo. They all had the VG30DE.

I am planning to put the engine in with the help of my dad, wo is very mechanically skilled and works on aircraft engines. He's fixed all our cars before. It was'nt the t in "j30t" that I first noticed. When I opened up the hood I saw thi big hub from the turbo sticking out of the black pannels that cover the front of the engine. I know its a turbo because I've heard of a vg30det here and there, and I see 2 of these round hubs on either side of the front of the vg30dett. This one has it on the driver's side. The passenger side doesnt have any sighns that a turbo was removed. It just has the regular black covers over it. Other than the single turbo hub sticking out, it looks just like my engine.

Um....a turbo wouldn't be under the black plastic timing belt covers.....I'm not trying to be a jerk but you're trying to be funny in your reply right?

The reason you've heard of a single turbo VG is because it came in the Z31's but is a very different motor.

Turbos are exhaust driven and bolt to the exhaust manifolds. Do you understand how they work?

Also....I'd say its a fair assessment to say this swap is going to be way over your head whether you've got help of not.

his dad sounds pretty skilled, and if he's willing to put a couple of weekends into it with you, i'm sure you could pull it off. But 170k sounds like quite a bit...

I agree I know nothing about cars but finally got my engine out and cleaned up. If his dad can help then for $250 it would be a pretty good way to learn a LOT! I'd say that now I at least know where my turbos are!
