I have an 89 240sx that I race at a local asphalt track. The engine however is getting quite tired. I have a couple options as what to do now.

1) I have a freshly machined KA24E block bored to .02. I have a rebuild kit to put that one together, I just have to order the pistons and rings. Would the engine get hot fast now due to the boring?

2)Swap the KA24E with a KA24DE w/the wiring harness and ECU.

3)Swap with a Z22. Can someone please explain the pros and cons of the Z22 containing 8 spark plugs? Does it hold up to continuous high RPM's? Can you make it fire as a V8, and would that create more power or would it just be the same and more of a hastle than anything?

4)Pull the one I have in there now and through a rebuild kit in it. Only problem with this is I race every Saturday for the next 6 weeks so I almost have to have something ready outside of the car to make for a quick swap to make the next race. I'm not a fantastic mechanic so I have to have enough time to get things done.

Any advice would be great. Thank you.

1) .02 over will not have an effect on temperature.

2) If you find someone with a DE that they are tossing out, take that option.

3) Never heard of a Z22, sorry.

4) For the price of a full rebuild you could swap in a much better engine, and spend less time on it.

A Z22 is from a Datsun, they are 4cyl but have 8 spark plugs. They are very hard to find parts for, and I would not recommend swapping one in. Go with the DE, they are easy to find, pretty cheap, and make better power than the Ka24E.

Ok, awesome. I'll probably go with the swapping of the E to the DE.
Thanks for the advice!
