I have a 93 Altima that got dumped on me with a freaking TERRIBLE rod knock. Its just a straight forward R&R but I am at a stopping point. This engine is ready to pull but I have no plan of attack after looking at the rear mounts location. Anyway, just looking for the best plan of attack. I already have everything disconnected from the engine, it just needs to be dropped out the bottom or out the top. Which is easiest with these cars? peace.

You can go either way. The FSM shows pulling it out of the bottom with the trans still attached. It might be easier out of the bottom since there isn't much room to slide the engine forward and off the input shaft with the frame rail in the way

i did my engine swap a little over a ago and i pulled it from the bottom with the transmission attached i found it easier. i acutally used two jacks because i didnt have a trolly...one jack to get the car up and another to pull the motor out...so i would recommend you pull it from the bottom

I decided to pull it out the top after watching my friend do it once with his taurus. However, now after the swap I am quite upset with myself for not doing it the way you guys are suggesting. I ALWAYS do it out the bottom when it comes to FWD's but this time I thought I would try it from the top and learned NEVER to do it that way again. lol! Also, its an auto so I just left it in the engine bay because there's no input shaft to line up. It sucked though because my cheap *** schucks jack blew its guts out while supporting the transmission when the engine was out. So, now I can't really get the CV axle to go all the way back into the transmission and there's ATF still puking out of the seal around the CV. lemme know what you guys think. peace.

Pull the CVs and pull the transmission. That way you can install everything from the bottom. I'd replace the CV shaft seals on both sides since they are delicate, just cheap insurance against future leaks. Install the trans back onto the engine block while still out of the car. Take Advil.

lol! I have a couple. The DD 87 turbo needs some serious attention, most importantly a 5 speed swap! lol. Thanks for all the help guys. peace.
