I just recently purchased a 1991 240sx with a blown head gasket. I was wanting to put a bigger engine with more horse power in it. I was wondering what engines would work and would get the most horse power for the best price. Any suggestions would help.

Thanks Mike

Well you have the SR, all the RBs, CA, VQ, VG, and for some people LS I could be missing some but those are the ones that I know of off the top of my head. Most common is the SR. With stock internals i believe they can hold up to 300, dont quote me on it.

Do you know of any of these engines that will bolt up to the stock 240 transmission.

each one requires it's own respective transmission and a full wiring harness plus cpu. using the search button will yield alot of info on the subject.

http://www.nicoclub.com/articles.php?id=277672 um they don't come new, nissan kinda stopped making these motors a while ago.

You can search by clicking on the red blinking search button. To name a few HeavyThrottle and Enjuku racing.

If you really really want a new one you could go for the Tomei crate motors. They come in SR and RB

I know i could change the engine and i took the original out thats not a problem its just finding one that would be the best fit for the 91 240 is the hard part. I don't know much about nissan im use to American cars.

The SR is a drop in replacement since you have a 91.

I know for the SR it doesn't really matter what year it came out of as long as it isn't one from an S15. In case you don't know 89-94 are known as S13. 95-98 is the S14, and 99 is an S15. The S15 motor can work but involves more work. Like I believe the speed sensor is in the rear end so you'd need to look up changing those. And the SR didn't appear til 91, the 89 and 90's were CA18det. Both the S13 and S14 require a little rewiring, but nothing bad at all. You can even pay people to do it if you look around online. Besides the re wiring its a drop in replacement. Though I'd recommend upgrading the fuel pump, the stock one can't keep up.
