Is it possible that a VG30DE will fit in an Z31 engine bay and still work with my transmission and ECU???

no, the ecu and harness are completely different, the VG30E uses a distributor and a coil, the VG30DE uses a CAS and coil packs, completley different animals, but the behhhousing might be the same, it can be done but it's a huge pITA, the turbo conversion woud be easier and yield more power
