All the more reason to get herself and her stuff and her money away from him as quickly and smoothly as possible. If he'll buy her car, she saves the cost of the engine swap and can find a nice replacement. There are a lot of fairly good, cheap Q45s in Florida these days.

The other route involves the law, which is fine as a matter of principle, but a loser, money-wise. It's also endless months of angst and anger.

Maybe so, but fighting is a real pain, and small claims court looks kindly on people who try to work things out. Given explicit instructions NOT to use a 90-93 engine in the swap, she has a lot of leverage.

Before small claims court she will need to document the current problems. The best way to do this is going to a knowledgeable source (T-3 or infiniti dealer) tha the court will agree is a knowledgeable source. Pay them to document the problems, and estimate the cost to repair. (Inifiniti will give you a more generous estimate). Then her own mechanic will have to remedy the problems... maybe settle for 1/2 the cost of repairs estimated by the dealer, and then take it to T-3.

Since you will ned to do the documentation for small claims court anyways, just get that done now. With documentation the mechanic will know you mean business and may work out to the best result through negotiation.

Good luck, and remember to document first, and negotiate from strength second.

I don't have much input except for the transmission shift problem. That's a line pressure problem, and can be caused from a misadjusted TPS.

Sorry to hear of your experience and current problem of which path to take now. Just an observation if it will help you. The transmission problem might be due to an incorrectly set TPS. Since the TCU takes throttle position into account to map shift points..a poorly set TPS will cause the TCU to think you have much more foot into the throttle than you do causing the shift points to move upward. Shifting at an RPM much too high for you right foots intructions. Might be a cheap fix to allow better drivability in the interim. Count on another steering rack. Boots only keep dust out..not fluid in.

Call the Attorney General's office and discuss the problem. They might have some helpful info too.

Plus, its always a good strategy to tell a mechanic that you have contacted the AG's office, as they know you are serious about getting your car fixed.

Good luck to you, I really hate to see anyone get ripped off by a mechanic who is not only a dunce, but a liar and a cheat.

Sloppy Swap Shop... HI im new and just had to put my 2 cents in... I feel your pain... This is what I would do if I were in your shoes... I would first lock that Q up in your garage.., show up at his shop.. , tell him it will not start and get your other vehicle out of his hands... When he comes to pick up the Q , give him a small claims file number instead of the car... You may feel better having your property in hand then it being under his control.... Best Wishes 2 You....

What a mess...I hope he offered you a cigarette after that screwin'... :-)

Lock the car up, get a 6'8" bouncer, go get your other car (if ready), and haul this fool to SC Court. Fact is, he installed the WRONG engine...and has messed your car up. I couldn't, and wouldn't sell a car like that to anyone other a Junk Yard...You should have no problem in SC Court.

Good Luck, Hell, he should have given you a whole carton... :-)
