ENGINE SWAP ON A '92 PATHFINDER

I'm sure this has pobably been addressed; I have a '92 Pathfinger with the v-6 and 5-speed. I have found a good VG33 out of a '98 QX4. Can I swap it in? The Junkyard says no - has anyone here tried it?

My next option is a good (and very cheap) 2.4 out of an '88 Pathy 5-speed. Will this engine bolt right up? Please stop laughing, I know swapping back to a 2.4 seems crazy but the price and convienience of just getting the truck back up and running might be worth it.

the VG33 probably isnt going to work, mainly because it was never offered with OBDI... OBDII tends to be a thorn in the side... I wonder if the difference is in the stroke, and Im wondering if you could just put in a 33 crank in to a 30...

What is wrong with the car now?

The WD21 (up to 95) pathfinder came with the VG30E and Z24 motors, so technically i would say the Z24 could go in, but im not sure about how feasible it is. Seems like a downgrade to me...

What is wrong with the car now?

A really loud knocking noise. Not the annoying clack-clack of a cracked manifold but more the sound of rod or valve contact along with a good amount of oil escaping from somewhere at the back of the block. Big loss of power, it is not driveable, it's something serious. It has over 250,000 mi.

Seems like a downgrade to me...

That's funny! I love the 3.0 engine but not enough to consider a running 2.4 as a downgrade to a dead 3.0.

assuming they physically bolt up the same way, i figure worst case scenario you're going to have to do some wiring.... Im not sure if they would physically bolt up, one might think they do though.
