I'm totally new to the car world and I was just wondering how much work/money it would take to drop an LS1 in a first gen 240. Thanks

Not sure but that'll be a sick project once you get it going. If you follow through.

motor, wiring, and trans will run every bit of 5k if not more. hinson motor sports sells bolt in options, but id fab everything myself to make up for the cost of the drivetrain.

id love to drop an lsx into my 240 though. power to weight baby, power to weight

I bought my ls1/transmission/ecu/harness/with all pumps and accesories for 3000 right after Katrina hit New Orleans, it was out of a 02 camaro with 17k miles it had no corrosion or rust on it, so if you want to find a great deal be a storm chaser. The sikky kit I bought cost me another 3000 for mounts, oil pan, headers, p/s hose kit, sway bar, and driveshaft. So i could have dropped a LS1 in my 240 for about 6000 plus maybe 800 for misc. stuff. all work done by me. I of course didn't leave it stock I spent another 8000 on 383 stroker kit, 205 afr heads, custom grind cam, fast intake, NW 90mm throttle body, machine work, and everything that goes along with that. the 240 cost me 600 had no motor, so I've got 14k in my ls1 240. And I still want to put direct port nitrous, and bachalf my car and put a ford 9" so I can bring my car to the track without grenading my 240 rear end. I'm on my third so far. Yes I know of the Q45 rear end swap but the car put out 661hp on the dyno and I want a 200 shot of nitrous.

Mine was swapped before they sold kits for them, rand me about 10K back then. There is a lot of work to do.

I picked the motor up for 2300 (5.7 LS6) And since have dumped money in it.

Next week I pick up a spare engine.... LQ9 6.0 (150 bucks, but has rod knock)

I just dropped an lsx 427 into a nova but the thought crossed my mind many times.

to the op ls motors arnt too hard to get in a car,but all the extra stuff that goes with the motor is where your money will get sucked up fast nitto mention integration with the s chasis. It can and has been done and maby one day my lsx willspend some time in a nissan.
